Reform UK - The Economic Reset & Pillar 1: Energy Sovereignty.
In my view, this is exactly the unapologetic economic reset Britain has been crying out for. Reform UK’s newly unveiled 64-point Economic Rescue Plan isn’t just modest political tinkering—it is the most serious, common-sense supply-side deregulation agenda proposed in modern British political history.
Framed around the blunt reality that "Britain is broke", this document lays out a comprehensive strategy to dismantle the "vetocracy"—the dense thicket of statutory obligations, planning inquiries, endless judicial reviews, and environmental remits that have throttled British capital investment, industrial capacity, and infrastructure delivery for decades.
By packaging 64 specific statutory rollbacks into a single Chancellor's manifesto, the objective is clear: shock the British economy out of its low-growth, high-tax equilibrium by cutting development approval times, slashing legal friction, and directly re-industrialising our energy and manufacturing sectors. It is an overdue declaration of war on the Whitehall consensus that has managed our national decline for thirty years.
This fundamentally redraws the battle lines of UK economic debate. Here is the full breakdown of the five structural pillars underpinning Reform’s rescue plan: 🧵👇
I know Restore voters want our country back, but we have to look at the bigger picture and call this out for what it is: a social media gimmick with zero policy substance.
The crisis facing Britain isn't driven by who gets married; it is driven by a macro-economic model that uses cheap imported labor to prop up corporate profits while a million young Brits are abandoned on out-of-work benefits. The bigger picture connects mass migration directly to council bankruptcies, impossible housing costs, depleted military barracks being turned into migrant hubs, and human rights courts overruling Parliament.
Tweeting about marriage rules is the political equivalent of repainting the front door while the entire house is collapsing underneath it. Real governance demands a comprehensive, cross-departmental strategy that dismantles the economic incentives, fixes the borders, and restores legal supremacy all at once. Anything less is pure theater.
The Tories broke the economy, Labour is taxing what’s left of it, and only Reform is putting forward actual pro-growth solutions.
Farage and Jenrick laying out a real blueprint to dismantle EU red tape and reward British workers is what leadership actually looks like. The Uniparty's time is fast coming to an end.
Labour’s economic thinking hasn't left the Industrial Revolution. Win power, empty the Treasury to pay off your union donors, label it growth investment with a straight face, and then hike stealth taxes on ordinary workers the second the money runs out. You don't build a dynamic modern economy by bleeding the private sector dry to bankroll state inefficiency.
'Taxes are high because we need to invest in Britain', says Angela Rayner

Classic Guido Fawkes: taking a serious, heavyweight military strategy paper and dumbing it down into cheap tabloid outrage bait.
Danny Kruger didn’t cook this up in a shed. This paper (Reclaiming the Waves) is endorsed by Field Marshal Lord Richards (former Chief of the Defence Staff), Penny Mordaunt, and senior Royal Navy Admirals.
The thesis is common-sense strategic reality: Britain is an island nation. Instead of blowing billions pretending we can fund a massive Cold War continental army while our ships rust and munitions run dry, we should prioritize the Royal Navy, RAF, modern drone/missile tech, and our actual sea borders, ending Blairite foreign nation-building forever.
Guido is supposed to be anti-establishment, yet the second a party proposes breaking the Whitehall MoD procurement racket to build a lethal, navy-first defense force, they run interference for the status quo.

Andy Burnham claiming "we can fix rough sleeping" is the ultimate insult to the public's intelligence.
Let's look at his actual record:
1. In 2017, Burnham pledged to completely eradicate rough sleeping in Greater Manchester by 2020. He failed utterly—rough sleeping in GM skyrocketed, and Manchester has consistently maintained some of the highest homelessness rates in the country.
2. In Downing Street today, he announces a £432 million taxpayer cash splash to fix it by Christmas—while his own government is actively handing out tents and sleeping bags to early-release prisoners because emergency accommodation has collapsed.
3. Over 14,000 prisoners were dumped directly onto the streets last year, where 66% will reoffend within 12 months.
Burnham creates the street crisis with one hand through early releases, and then taxes working families £432 million with the other to hold a photo-op summit. Pure performative incompetence.

Pillar 4: Re-calibrating Labour Costs, Financial Markets & Regulatory Freedoms
The final pillar targets operational business costs and the lingering drag of inherited European Union bureaucracy.
On employment and domestic hiring:
• Rolling back Employer National Insurance contributions to 13.8% to unfreeze private-sector hiring.
• Introducing a targeted migrant worker levy to incentivise British hiring.
• Repealing the Employment Rights Act to return flexibility to labour contracts.
• Removing mandatory CSCS card requirements for experienced tradesmen on public procurement contracts, tackling artificial skilled labour shortages in construction.
In the City of London, the strategy excises climate compliance from financial supervision:
• Stripping Net Zero targets out of financial regulators' statutory remits and repealing mandatory climate-related financial disclosure rules.
• Reviewing commercial bank capital requirements to expand business lending.
Finally, it seizes post-Brexit regulatory divergence:
• Scrapping the restrictive EU GDPR regime and replacing it with a pragmatic, New Zealand-style Privacy Act.
• Enacting a blanket 5-year sunset clause that automatically repeals all remaining retained EU law unless specifically renewed by Parliament.
• Making quarterly digital tax reporting (Making Tax Digital) voluntary for small enterprises.
This is a full-throttle rejection of managed decline. It forces a stark political question: can Britain deregulate its way back to growth, or will institutional resistance bury the blueprint before it reaches the statute book?
Pillar 5: Unleashing the City & Delivering Actual Brexit Sovereignty
The final pillar targets City competitiveness, small enterprise friction, and the lingering drag of retained European bureaucracy:
In the financial sector:
• Stripping Net Zero targets out of financial regulators' remits to refocus the City purely on capital allocation and economic growth.
• Repealing climate-related financial disclosure rules.
• Reviewing commercial bank capital requirements to boost business lending to the real economy.
On regulatory sovereignty and small business:
• Scrapping the cumbersome EU GDPR regime and replacing it with a pragmatic, New Zealand-style Privacy Act.
• Enacting a blanket 5-year sunset clause to automatically repeal all remaining EU law unless specifically renewed by Parliament.
• Making quarterly Making Tax Digital (MTD) reporting voluntary for small businesses.
• Fully re-legalising Imperial units.
This is a full-scale rejection of managed decline. It forces a clear choice: does Britain continue regulating itself into stagnation, or do we follow this blueprint to get building and growing again?
Imagine being a convicted murderer in Australia and having to take the state to the Supreme Court because they won’t let you have Vegemite on your toast—a tragic hardship compared to the cozy luxuries of the UK prison system.
His defense? Banning yeast spread violates his cultural rights as an Australian.
The judge’s response? "Your rights are mainly limited by the fact you’re in prison for murder."
Turns out the inmates were using it to confuse sniffer dogs and brew prison booze.
Meanwhile, over here in the UK, we’re practically handing out early release vouchers, free Wi-Fi, and 4-star room service just to clear the backlog. Australia might have sent us here as a penal colony originally, but right now, their prisons sound a lot stricter than ours.
Don't tell the UK Ministry of Justice about the Marmite trick, or we'll be paying £50 a jar on the black market in HMP Belmarsh by Monday.
Hard to disagree with this. The current setup taxes low-wage workers on their very first steps above £12,570 while they pay full price for transit and basic living costs. Lifting the threshold across the board is how you actually make work pay instead of playing intergenerational politics
Why should a pensioner on a £13K income be exempt from income tax when a person of working age is not? Those of working age do not receive free travel or all sorts of other discounts to which pensioners are entitled. We do not exempt people from tax based on how many dependents they have, or how much housing in their area costs, so why exempt individuals based on age?
This is what actual conservative economic policy looks like.
For 14 years, the Tories promised to slash EU red tape, raise productivity, and cut state dependency—only to increase tax burdens to 70-year highs while leaving European bureaucracy intact. Now Labour wants to drag us right back into Brussels’ orbit with Andy Burnham’s youth resets.
Nigel Farage and Robert Jenrick laying out a real alternative to scrap leftover EU mandates and unleash growth proves Reform isn't just an opposition voice—they're the only party with the backbone to execute Brexit and put British workers first. @RobertJenrick @reformparty_uk

The sheer nerve of John Healey tweeting about doubling down on commitments after his disastrous record at Defence.
You promised our military a cast-iron funding timeline, vowed to fix recruitment, and claimed Labour was the party of defence-only to cut Army front-line funding and watch personnel numbers drop.
Now you want applause for dumping £432 million of taxpayers' money into council summits and photo-ops. Labour can't be trusted on national security, they can't be trusted on housing, and they certainly can't be trusted with public money. Total institutional deceit.
Today we’re doubling down on our commitment to tackle rough sleeping with an extra £432 million to help people off the streets.
With businesses, charities, and communities, @andyburnham and I will work together to end rough sleeping.
The sheer, shameless political amnesia on display here is astounding.
Andrew Griffith MP sitting in Parliament lecturing the nation about a £3 trillion debt pile is absurdly insane. Let’s look at the actual numbers:
1. 2010 (When the Tories took office): UK national debt stood at £1.01 trillion.
2. 2024 (When the Tories left office): UK national debt had exploded to £2.74 trillion.
The Conservatives added over £1.7 trillion to the national debt in 14 years—under writing high taxes, bloated state welfare, and record interest bills—and now Andrew wants a medal for pointing out that the total hit £3 trillion under Labour.
It isn't a Labour vs Tory debate—it's 14 years of Uniparty fiscal management blowing the budget, locking in high taxes, and sticking working taxpayers with the interest bill. Total hypocrisy.
Britain’s debt is now more than £3 trillion.
The Government is borrowing just to pay the interest bill.
Burnham’s EU fantasy is nothing but a distraction.
But what has gone unnoticed by the Remainer media is the fact that the UK’s dire finances would rule out rejoining!
EU rules state that national debt should be below 60% of GDP; the UK’s is approaching 100%.
And the EU’s deficit limit is 3%. The UK’s is 4.2%.
When these rules were drawn up, the concerns centred on Portugal, Italy, Greece and Spain – the so-called ‘PIGS’.
Today, the UK Government pays higher interest rates on its borrowing than any of them.
Sadly, we are now at the bottom of the sty…
Fair play where it's due: @TiceRichard conveyed the core argument here very well.
Labour loves to claim they represent working-class communities, yet their entire model relies on punishing low-wage workers with stealth taxes while expanding a £330bn welfare trap. When nearly 1 million young Brits sit out of work, calling themselves the "party of workers" is pure comedy.
Reform laying claim to the working class isn’t just rhetoric—it’s where the electorate is actually moving while Westminster ignores wage suppression and skyrocketing energy costs.

Ruling out an early election on morning TV is the ultimate tell. If establishment polling figures were remotely accurate and Labour was genuinely confident in its mandate, Burnham would be sprinting to the polls to cement his position.
Instead, Downing Street knows the truth: mainstream pollsters are pushing artificially comfortable numbers to keep the political class calm and suppress Reform's real groundswell. Labour lacks the numbers, lacks confidence, and knows that behind the media spin, public fury over tax drag and migration is at boiling point. They aren't ruling out an election out of stability—they're hiding from the voters.
‘There is no election coming anytime soon’
Prime Minister Andy Burnham has ruled out an early general election, telling Good Morning Britain that the public can ‘put that out of their mind’.
He insisted Britain is beginning to regain its momentum and said improving the UK's relationship with Europe is key to boosting economic growth and controlling migration.
#election #pm #uk #politics
This level of hypocrisy is stunning. Labour kicked off the modern mass-migration experiment in the late 1990s, dismantling local social cohesion and overloading public services—a policy Andy Burnham is actively trying to expand through backdoors to EU labor.
You don't even have the support of your own Labour backbenchers to pass meaningful law-and-order or asylum reforms. Rebranding Blair's 1998 ASBOs as Respect Orders—while your government releases thousands of actual criminals early because prisons are full—isn't taking tough action. It's administrative theatre to cover up decades of state decay.
Unchecked, anti-social behaviour blights our communities. But it is not inevitable and I won't accept it.
For too long, we have lacked the powers we need to deal with this problem properly. From today, that changes: authorities will be able to take tough action against these offenders.
This delivers on a commitment we made to the British people in our manifesto. And, most importantly, those who make life a misery for others will now face the consequences of their actions.
Glad to see Rupert Lowe tackling the truly monumental issues facing Britain: predicting the domestic water supply will run out by Christmas. Never mind 70-year high tax drag, collapsing public infrastructure, or building a professional party machine capable of breaking FPTP—apparently the real crisis is taps turning off in two months.
National reservoir storage sits at ~54%, and with statutory drought controls and the official winter refill season starting November 1st, public water supplies are not running dry before Christmas. Localized southern spots are low, sure, but manufacturing end-of-days headlines on X isn't a substitute for serious politics.
Turn your party into a disciplined, professional electoral force that can challenge the Uniparty, rather than running tabloid panic campaigns over drinking water.
Where exactly are these offenders going to be jailed? Under Labour’s emergency early release scheme (SDS40), thousands of convicted criminals are being quietly turned out onto the streets because British prisons are at breaking point. Yet now the Home Office expects frontline officers—who currently fail to solve over 90% of domestic burglaries—to act as town-centre hall monitors issuing subjective bans and mandating anger management courses.
You cannot run a functional justice system by releasing actual felons while threatening people with prison over rebranded 1998 ASBOs. Total law enforcement delusion.
