I don't think Jesus is any more fucked today than he was yesterday, tbh.

I have a friend who is a professor in Bangladesh. He said they tried DST for a bit, but quickly went back. It is not lost on me that a country that saw an armed overthrowing of the government took one taste of DST & immediately went "Nope, fuck that."

As a legal battle over unhoused people's right to exist comes to a head some Clrs are looking for a more final solution to the homeless question. In response to the case Clr Danko said "I don't get how anyone can support encampments", adding, "I don't support the homeless at all.
Halloween is over, Clr. You can stop trying to sell us on the accuracy of your costume.
It's telling that encampment supporters - who literally took the @cityofhamilton to court to force encampments in #HamOnt parks - continue to claim they aren't encampment supporters.
Taxpayers are done with this nonsense & want parks off-limits to tents.

Read "Given expected population growth LRT should be remapped to service Barton & Tiffany", "Wearing your everyday work clothes is a lazy Halloween costume", "I never knew those were supposed to be bike lanes", & more in today's Letters to the Editor.

Premier Ford announced today that Ontario has signed a contract with Restaurant Brands International to give Tim Hortons exclusive rights to polling stations for future provincial elections. Ford also announced that voter registration cards will be mailed with a $10 Timmies card.
Ice cream trucks in October. If that's not proof we've let climate change go unchecked for too long, I dunno what is.

"The mayor says in a national housing crisis, councillors should be in favor of housing."
When a motion is tabled to replace Gage Park, City Hall, all city owned parking lots with housing, as stated a year ago was coming, then I will believe it. What we have now is theatre.
.@alectranews is there a power outage planned for tomorrow in the L8K area of Hamilton?

When I first read the 14-page report produced over a decade ago by @DeirdrePike, then-ED of the @SPRCHamOnt, I was angry. In the report, sex workers were pitted against their neighbours, and their own concerns as residents & constituents were not taken into consideration; they were painted as a large problem in the city, especially to those with interests in gentrifying the neighbourhood. They were erroneosuly described as being related to organized crime. Newsflash: if any industry is criminalized, the workers organizing would therefore be considered "organized criminals" even if unjustly.
Similarly, I felt angry when I learned about @GarySantucci's photovoice project (read about it here in an article by former @TheSilhouette's Nolan Matthews: The Art of Creating a Neighbourhood - publicintellectualsproject.h…) which objectified the workers, recklessly disregarded their privacy and their dignity in the so-called name of "social justice", without actually meaningfully engaging them. I promised to make both of these instances right, one day.
I am very pleased to announce that we at @SWAPHamilton have almost completed (35 participants out of 40 thus far) our @CityofHamilton photovoice needs assesment project in collaboration with the @YWCA_Hamilton as part of the #HamOnt's Gender-Based Safety Audit. In exchange for their expertise and input, each participant was spoken to like friends & family, received snacks, a juice & a water, $40 cash honoraria, and most importantly: respect and consideraton to their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. #WeBelieveSurvivors @SACHAHamOnt @CheriDiNovo @WAWGHAMILTON @InasmuchMSH @GoodShepherdHam @MissionHamilton @HCCI1 @DJNOntario #CDNPoli #ONPoli #CDNPolitics

On our way to the Labour Day March today we passed a @HamiltonPolice officer who exclaimed “I don’t know how Palestine has anything to do with labour!” I yelled back “Because labour supports Palestine!”
Police don’t understand solidarity or human compassion & that’s terrifying.
