MICHELLE MORROW — Used a false residence to register, run for county supervisor, and vote by mail in the wrong district. A roommate’s allegation reached the registrar through a reporter on Election Day. She was convicted of fraudulent voting and filing false nomination papers, then sentenced to 90 days in jail. ROBERT SOUTAR — A Canadian citizen who registered and voted in California’s 2016 primary and general elections. The illegal voting was reported through a fraud hotline in 2024. He pleaded guilty to registration fraud and two illegal-voting offenses. LAURA LEE YOUREX — Registered her dog. A ballot cast in the dog’s name was counted in your 2021 recall election. The owner eventually reported herself and pleaded guilty. Her case was later dismissed after she completed the plea terms. These cases expose the question your signature-verification message leaves unanswered: WHO ESTABLISHED THAT THE INFORMATION USED TO REGISTER WAS TRUE? When discussing proof of candidates’ residence, San Luis Obispo County’s registrar told The Tribune: “We don’t investigate. We don’t ask. We don’t ask for proof.” The Orange County District Attorney separately states that its registrar does not independently verify citizenship. A person can sign their own name consistently while using a false address or falsely claiming eligibility. A MATCHING SIGNATURE CANNOT MAKE FALSE REGISTRATION INFORMATION TRUE.
