Hello & welcome to SAND: Stop Akehurst North Durham. We’re a group of concerned residents, both in North Durham & the wider North East opposed to ‘parachute’ Luke Akehurst becoming the next MP for the constituency. The leaflet below explains some of the reasons why. Get on board.

During the whole of this campaign, @lukeakehurst has been hiding, doing the bare minimum in #NorthDurham. We’ve been looking all over. @Bob_cart124 of @5Pillarsuk couldn’t find him either. How can you be an MP when you can’t even face the public?

Feel absolutely disgusted that our MP @lukeakehurst made his maiden speech about N.Durham needing help and actually visited a school, seeing how it was.
Then voted AGAINST scrapping the 2 child benefit cap.
Party comes first before us.

Just to explain, because those unfamiliar with the traditions of @DurhamGala may not understand. It’s #BigMeeting tradition for each banner to be paraded in its own community early morning, before being taken, with bands, to Durham for the ‘walk in’ to the field & speeches. (1/2)
Basically, what we advocate is a BDS campaign (Boycott, Divestment & Sanctions) against @lukeakehurst in North Durham. What he wants is to normalise his presence. We don’t recognise him as a legitimate representative of the community & we’d ask others to take that stand too ✊+🙏

Congratulations to @lukeakehurst, but just a bit of reality. Out of 73,243 eligible voters, only 16,562 voted for #ParachuteLuke. By our reckoning, that’s 22.6% of North Durham - not exactly a ringing endorsement. We’ll continue to hold him to account, don’t worry about that.

In some ways, it quite simple: vote for someone who’ll take care of your community, rather than someone parachuted into North Durham with no previous knowledge or interest in the area.
