Wow! I hadn't heard of the project in Norfolk. I used to live not far from that proposed data centre. I know the area, and I know the UK can't feed itself as it is, so why the F*CK would they destroy 4,695 acres of prime arable farmland for a data centre? It is utter madness.

There are plans being submitted to build the largest data centre in the UK on rural land next to a nature reserve in Norfolk.
We can t allow our countryside to be stolen in this way. We need data centres, but this application is wrong on every level.

Campaigners fear the project could threaten productive farmland and food security, while the developer says it would bring significant investment and jobs to the area.

Data centres consume roughly 30 million litres of water daily in the UK. A figure that will significantly rise with the rapid expansion plans for AI data centres.

Er … hidden away in today’s Budget is a new Data Centre Covenant.
taxpayers will fund over £700 MILLION in AI initiatives and the government is introducing special treatment for strategically important AI data centres.
They will receive PRIORITY access to electricity capacity, faster connections and faster planning decisions.
A new Quango … the Ministerial Control Centre will push these projects through.
So with energy in short supply and prices linked to supply … ordinary citizens er … are not priority!
Better stock up on brand and loo roll. Just like they told you.

I'm deeply concerned about the environmental impact of hyperscale AI data centres, including here in Leeds.
In September, I tabled a parliamentary motion for a national moratorium on them.
I've now also written to Leeds City Council formally requesting an immediate pause in the planning process for the proposed AI Data Centre at Skelton Grange.

Across the UK, prime agricultural land and green spaces are increasingly being swallowed up by massive data centres and industrial developments. While technology moves forward, we cannot sacrifice our natural environment, clean water, and the very farmland that feeds our nation.
No data centre on Earth is worth the loss of bees, water, and trees.
