How much have we really learned from the Troubles?
On this week's episode, the team reflect on recent protests, political disagreements and how much things have changed compared to 20 years ago arguing that, despite tensions, the fact that disagreements have remained largely peaceful is a significant improvement on the past.
Have we made more progress than we sometimes give ourselves credit for?

Can you support a protest while condemning the language surrounding it?
David discusses the nationalist response to the Garvaghy Road parade controversy, making a distinction between opposing the parade and being uncomfortable with the abuse directed at unionist politicians.
Where should the line be drawn between political protest and personal abuse?

Are exclusion motions becoming more about political theatre than accountability at Stormont?
The Alliance Party’s approach to the latest exclusion motion comes under scrutiny following its decision not to support the exclusion of Sinn Féin ministers, despite having previously supported similar motions against unionist ministers.
The debate also raises questions about whether repeated exclusion motions are an effective way to hold ministers accountable, with alternative approaches suggested to ensure ministers remain in the Assembly and answer for their actions.

“Unionism is much more split in this than what you think.”
This week the panel discusses divisions within unionism over how the DUP should respond to the ongoing situation at Stormont. Tim argues that some figures who would usually take a more moderate position are now pushing for a harder line, while others within the party are taking a softer approach.

Is Gavin Robinson caught between competing views within unionism?
Tim Kearns argues that unionism is far from united on how to respond, with pressure coming from different sides of the DUP. David McCann asks whether Gavin is also weighing the long-term implications for the Union and whether bringing down the Executive could strengthen the case for constitutional change.

An MLA was called out by the Speaker for wearing AirPods during an Assembly debate.
It was later revealed that it was Jon Burrows, who addressed the incident in the chamber on Tuesday and apologised, saying he would be more careful in future.
The incident came after the Speaker censured an unnamed MLA for listening to AirPods during Monday night's debate. David explains how the identity of the MLA was eventually confirmed, as the team discusses an unusual moment inside the Northern Ireland Assembly.

“Usually when this phenomenon occurs… it’s usually gifted to Sinn Féin by unreasonable unionism.”
On this week's podcast the team discuss whether recent events could give Sinn Féin a boost in the polls ahead of the next election and whether unionism is helping to unify nationalist support behind the party.
Could Sinn Féin be heading for a polling surge?

“It’s disgusting.”
Tim raises concerns over the growing threats, personal insults and abuse directed at politicians across Northern Ireland and beyond.
While political rhetoric inside the Assembly may have calmed, he warns that the hostility is spilling out onto the streets, with threats against politicians on all sides.
“Rhetoric can lead to the difficulties on the streets that we’ve seen.”

"This is very good. Personally, I want to see more roads being built here.”
The A5 road project has been given the green light to proceed following a court ruling, but will construction finally get underway?
Tim welcomes the decision, pointing to major safety concerns and the need for investment in Northern Ireland’s infrastructure. However, he warns that further legal challenges could still delay the project.

“It just looks like the rules don’t apply to us.”
Tim criticises the Alliance Party’s decision to walk out during a motion of no confidence in one of its own ministers, questioning why the party demanded accountability from other ministers but failed to hold itself to the same standards.
He argues the move was widely ridiculed across the Assembly, asking whether Alliance has been guilty of the very “pantomime politics” it accuses others of.
Did Alliance get it wrong?
