Not every prospect is an ideal client.
Trying to appeal to everyone often forces entrepreneurs to compromise their strengths, adjust their standards, and create services they don’t enjoy delivering.
Even when it produces revenue, the wrong fit creates complexity.
It drains the entrepreneur.
It frustrates the team.
And it moves the business further away from the future it was meant to create.
The strongest businesses are built around clear values, distinctive strengths, and the people who appreciate both.
Marketing isn’t about convincing everyone to choose you.
It’s about making it easier for the right people to recognize why you’re the right fit—and giving the wrong people the clarity to look elsewhere.
Who does your business do its best work for?

In 2010, Steve Gordon lost his business and went through a divorce within the same year.
It was one of the lowest and most challenging periods of his life.
But Steve wasn’t facing it alone.
He had a community of entrepreneurs around him who understood the risks, pressures, and setbacks that come with building a business. Their support helped him regain his confidence and begin moving forward.
Sixteen years later, Steve has built Million Dollar Author, developed a strong team, and served nearly 400 clients by helping entrepreneurs turn their ideas into bestselling books.
Looking back, Steve sees that difficult period differently.
Surviving it gave him the confidence to know that he could handle whatever came next.
His journey is a powerful reminder that resilience isn’t about avoiding setbacks. It’s about continuing to move forward despite them.
Your current circumstances don’t define your future.
There’s always a way forward.

Are you leading your business—or controlling every detail?
Being in charge means setting a clear direction, defining the results that matter, and giving your team the confidence and ownership to achieve them.
Being in control means staying involved in every decision, process, and day-to-day task. It may feel responsible, but it can limit your team’s growth and keep you from focusing on the future.
The strongest entrepreneurial leaders create clarity, delegate responsibility, and trust capable people to deliver results. This frees everyone to contribute at their highest level—including the entrepreneur.
Let go of the need to control everything. Stay in charge of the vision.

For more than 30 years, Dave Sanderson built a successful career as a sales executive for major technology companies.
Then he survived the Miracle on the Hudson—and was the last passenger off the plane.
The experience changed his life, but the full transformation became clear when he returned to work. Being asked to step back into his old routine made him realize that the path he had been following was no longer the one he was meant to pursue.
Surviving the flight gave Dave a different focus. It challenged him to take greater ownership of his future and choose a direction connected to a deeper sense of purpose.
Sometimes a life-changing moment doesn’t immediately reveal what comes next.
It simply makes it impossible to keep living the same way.

Entrepreneurs have no shortage of opportunities competing for their attention.
Without intention, it’s easy to fill the calendar with activity that creates very little progress.
Before committing to a project, meeting, or opportunity, clarify three things:
What is the purpose?
Why is it important?
What does the ideal outcome look like?
These questions create a clear standard for deciding what deserves time, energy, and resources.
They also make it easier to communicate expectations, involve the right people, and recognize when the result has been achieved.
Intentionality isn’t about doing more.
It’s about making sure what gets done moves the future forward.
Where could greater clarity improve your results today?

Ted Kerr’s boldest entrepreneurial decision came when the future looked least certain.
His wealth management business had endured the collapse of the tech bubble and the global financial crisis. By 2009, Ted was questioning whether he had chosen the wrong business entirely.
Then he made a decision.
Instead of retreating, Ted secured an excellent office in an excellent location—with the potential for a 10-year commitment.
He didn’t know exactly where the money or clients would come from. But he believed in himself, his business, and his future as an entrepreneur.
That commitment helped give the business something every entrepreneur needs during uncertain times:
Staying power.
Ted’s story is a reminder that long-term thinking isn’t simply hoping conditions will improve.
It’s making decisions today that reflect the future you’re committed to creating.

What becomes possible when you give your biggest goals more time?
Short timelines can pressure entrepreneurs to shrink their vision or force progress before the path is clear. The 25-Year Framework creates the space to imagine a much bigger future—without needing to have every answer today.
A longer time horizon doesn’t delay action. It provides greater clarity, reduces pressure, and helps you identify the most meaningful step you can take right now.
When your future is big enough, today’s decisions become easier.
What would you pursue if time were no longer limiting your imagination?

More data doesn’t always lead to better decisions.
As Colin Sanburg explains, entrepreneurs don’t need a three-page report filled with numbers that pull their attention in every direction. They need a focused scorecard built around the metrics that actually reflect success.
The right metrics should:
• Keep the entrepreneur focused
• Show the team what winning looks like
• Create a clear path forward
• Turn financial information into action
A useful scorecard doesn’t measure everything.
It measures the few things that matter most.
If the numbers aren’t helping the team make better decisions, they’re probably not the right numbers.

Entrepreneurship rewards commitment.
When someone is only half in, every challenge becomes a reason to retreat. Decisions get delayed, opportunities are approached cautiously, and energy is divided between creating a bigger future and preserving a familiar past.
Being fully entrepreneurial doesn’t mean taking careless risks.
It means accepting responsibility for creating value, generating opportunities, and transforming uncertainty into progress.
There may not be a guaranteed path.
There may not be a safety net.
But there is the freedom to make decisions, build the right team, and create a future based on ambition rather than limitation.
Entrepreneurship works best when it’s treated as a commitment—not a temporary experiment.
Where would greater commitment create greater progress for you?

Scott Akerley was asking entrepreneurial questions long before he knew what to call them.
By the time he graduated from high school, he had started three businesses and worked six different jobs.
His curiosity eventually helped Scott build a successful group of escrow and title businesses across Southern California.
His leadership was tested when COVID-19 arrived. Because his team had prepared its systems and practiced responding to disruption, they acted quickly—cutting $1 million in expenses without laying off employees and even sharing their PPP process with friendly competitors.
After selling the business, Scott began thinking about his next decade.
Through Strategic Coach, he recognized that his experience, relationships, and collaborations could help him build something new more quickly and with less effort.
Today, Scott is developing a youth leadership and entrepreneurship initiative with 2,000 young people registered—and a vision for creating impact around the world.
His story is a powerful reminder:
People often overestimate what they can accomplish in one year and underestimate what they can create in a decade.
Stay authentic. Dream bigger. Your greatest decade may still be ahead of you.

A longer to-do list doesn’t always mean greater productivity.
The key is knowing which activities create the most value—and protecting your time to focus on them.
Try these three steps:
Identify your top three revenue-generating activities.
Review and refine them every quarter as your business evolves.
Dedicate focused time to them each week, increasing that time whenever possible.
When you prioritize high-impact work and remove lower-value tasks from your plate, you create more space for meaningful progress.
What are the three activities that move your business forward?

One of the biggest threats entrepreneurs face isn’t lack of opportunity.
It’s failing to protect their confidence.
A bad week or unexpected setback can make even a capable entrepreneur question everything—and sometimes consider walking away from a business that still has enormous potential.
As Alec Broadfoot and Program Coach Chad Johnson discuss, confidence needs to be actively protected. That means having trusted people who can offer perspective, encouragement, and a reminder of what’s still possible when circumstances make it difficult to see clearly.
Sometimes the smartest next move isn’t another strategy.
It’s a conversation with someone who helps restore your confidence to keep going.

Strong teams are shaped by what their leaders consistently communicate.
Chris Cornelison learned that lesson after purchasing his grandfather’s pharmacy at 27.
As a former athlete, Chris believed strong leadership meant being forceful. He yelled, criticized, and reacted visibly when something went wrong.
He thought he was communicating high standards.
His team received a different message.
They felt fearful, underappreciated, and unable to perform at their best. Less than two years after taking over the pharmacy, Chris was at risk of losing the family legacy he had hoped to carry forward.
That realization led him to ask:
“What if I'm the problem?”
Chris recognized that the team’s performance couldn’t improve until his communication did.
He began replacing constant criticism with intentional praise—not as empty encouragement, but as a practical way to communicate expectations and reinforce the behaviors that helped the team succeed.
His principle became:
Praise what you want repeated.
When leaders specifically recognize teamwork, creativity, courage, kindness, and effort, they show everyone what matters. Those behaviors become more visible, more valued, and more likely to spread across the organization.
As Chris changed his communication, his team became more focused, collaborative, and confident. The pharmacy grew, expanded, and became best in class.
Great teamwork doesn’t happen simply because talented people share a workplace.
It develops when leaders communicate clearly, recognize meaningful contributions, and help everyone understand how their work supports the team’s success.
Discover how intentional communication can strengthen your team. Watch Chris Cornelison’s TedX Talk, The Power of Praise: youtu.be/E0_I3alTv00?si=87Nr…
