Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk says, “This book should be required reading in schools of urban design, architecture, and landscape architecture, and an understanding of it should be part of the licensing requirements for civil, traffic, and transportation engineers.”
Interesting, we had emails from book clubs and “Daniel Silva” – not @danielsilvabook but [email protected], who wrote a nice email explaining exactly why he likes our book. But there was never an ask or a link to click, so I’m not sure what the point was. BTW, like fake Daniel Silva, the book clubs all had Gmail addresses, apparently because Google doesn’t care and ignores all complaints about scammers using Gmail.

Willow Street, in Brownstone Brooklyn - where there are hundreds of blocks like this. Making a street is surprisingly easy. Read all about it in @Street_Design.

The singular form looks better in isolation than it would on a city street.

Every American city has highways that enter the city. Off-ramps dump cars onto the grids, and those are points of friction, with traffic jams and traffic deaths, as drivers continue their aggravating sub-urban drives.
People walking in Manhattan know to stay away from places like the Holland and Lincoln tunnels during rush hours. Many driving to and from the tunnels are in a #RoadRage, not thinking about vulnerable MHOs (Moving Hazardous Objects, aka “people,” @Street_Design page 39). @OpenPlans @TransAlt @GVSHP @OffRampNYC

Dear @NY_Clean_Air -
"Above 100th Street, playing fields run along the highway for a quarter mile. Beautiful mature plane trees shade the playing fields, holding the polluted air under the leaves. The train tracks and the esplanade above make a tall barrier along the east side of the playfield that holds the air in too. In California, the law prohibits building playgrounds or playing fields within 500 feet of a highway."

Not more than 30 feet from the largest playing fields and playground on the Upper West Side. This would be illegal in California.

A view including some of the street. In some ways, the oldest street in New York. The trees are beautiful. @Street_Design

The fietsvlonder (bike platform) has been reshaping Rotterdam streets for a decade.
It swaps one car parking space for a temporary structure that accommodates a dozen bicycles.
If successful after a few months, the curb is permanently rebuilt, and it moves to the next location.

Good to be working in @haringeycouncil to improve walking and cycling in the borough, while making the roads safer for people.
Exciting to see plans for new cycle routes coming forward 🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲

The downside of the chamfered corners as used in the Eixample in Barcelona was that they created very wide streets, with a lot of wide-open asphalt to cross – which is why they lend themselves so well to the new low-traffic superblocks.

This is a high-traffic street. It has no painted lanes and compared to the same street in an American city it is practically naked. #TheMondermanRule
We're working with London's boroughs to grow our Cycleway Network and enable more people to safely cycle around the capital.
I'm looking forward to working with @lbhf who, last night, approved the new Olympia to Hammersmith section of Cycleway 9.
