I have been straight edge since I was 14 years old, and I’ve never thought twice, looked back, OR thought myself above or better than anyone.
But what I do know is that in a world that teaches us to numb ourselves, straight edge taught me how to feel. In a culture that profits from our continuous destruction, it can be the ultimate weapon… Against apathy, against excess, and most importantly, against the slow surrender of the self.
I have never understood the notion that we must poison our minds to escape our reality, we need only the strength to change it. There’s always a better way.
