Some excellent illustrations in the Florence Nightingale — especially of the soldiers marching off to the Crimean War. @DefenceAssoc @BritishSquare @LBFlyawayhome
Govt is asking us to keep radio sets handy. A while ago, the powers-that-be were all for switching off the VHF signal in favour of ‘streamed’ or digital… @AllisonPearson @GBNEWS @christopherhope @TomTugendhat @JohnHealey_MP @andyburnham @KemiBadenoch #emergencypreparedness

Time will come when someone will walk past this spot and say: “Heavens, WW2, that was 300 years ago…” (Assuming of course that there was no intervening WW3.) @PoppyLegion @DefenceAssoc

Soothing and moving words from HM The King & Prince of Wales, yesterday… @YDdraigaGeorge @RSStGeorge #Aberfan #Aberfandisaster #Wales @KensingtonRoyal
Sixty years on, we remember the 144 people who lost their lives in the Aberfan disaster.
Today, The King and The Queen, with The Prince of Wales, spent time at the Aberfan Memorial Garden and the Aberfan and Merthyr Vale Community Centre to honour their memory.
The Aberfan Memorial Garden stands on the site of Pantglas School, where 109 children and 5 teachers died when the coal tip collapsed onto the village.
Watch His Majesty’s speech in full on our YouTube channel (link in bio).
BBC main evening news reporters seemed a bit sniffy about the new gas pipeline from the North Sea. Maybe they want us all to be heating our soya beans with the 2 hours-worth of heat that comes from a windfarm? Why do BBC types not wear ties? @christopherhope @GBNEWS @BBCJustinR
Happy Trafalgar Day. ‘England expects…’ @RSStGeorge @DefenceAssoc @UIBCampaign @NelsonSociety #Trafalgarday
#OTD in 1805, the Royal Navy defeated the combined forces of France and Spain at Trafalgar.
The tactical brilliance, professionalism, technology and training which underpinned Adm Lord Nelson’s stunning victory have driven and shaped the Navy ever since.
