It’s back! Yay!!
[3:14 PM] Additional repairs have appeared to resolve the issue with the ILN radar, so it is back up and running. Thanks to our technicians for all their hard work!

It looks like Vance is going to invade Mexico as a depression on the 30th. That's cool

With the updated UI change, you may have noticed a new tool on the site called, Heatmap. If you haven't yet given it a try, you should! Yes it does look cool, but my point for adding this is really for those who like to do research. Say you're trying to figure out how active somewhere was in an El Nino year compared to a La Nina year. You could find those years and then compare them with how active each year was in whatever area you prefer! More heatmap options will be coming by the end of the month with updates coming out daily, so make sure you're checking in every night to see what's changed! As always, any and all feedback is greatly appreaciated and this is the begining of where the Refined DAT becomes the DART (Damage Assessment and Research Toolkit). Next month will be focused on tropical data! Stay tuned👀 refined-damage-assessment-to…

After being back online for less than 24 hours, the Wilmington, OH radar is down AGAIN for the 4th time this month. There’s currently no estimated time for it to come back online and you can even tell they’re tired of it: "kiln radar is unavailable ufn (unfortunately)." #OHwx

The radar has been down during these dates this month: 2-3 | Comms outage 5-8 | Hardware maintenance 15-23 | Repairs + Comms outage (17) 24 | Unknown at this time This means that KILN has been down a total of roughly 7-8 days worth of hours this month. Thats a THIRD of October

8 months ago I broke my back. 8 months later I just ran my first ever 10k race and smashed my goal time by 10 minutes!! Suffering from severe depression quietly leading up to my accident I lacked motive to go to the gym, I was gaining weight and just not feeling myself until my accident. There’s something when you face a moment where you fear your life is changed forever and then when you walk away from it your whole perspective on a lot changes. Chasing storms for a living I see how fragile life can be to others and I never take it for granted. But when it stares you in the face and you get a second chance you realize you need to use it for everything it’s worth. I no longer (unless running behind) use the auto walkways at airports, I walk instead of sitting, I walk even to close stores and I have had a goal for the last decade that I put off until my accident happened and my weight has cratered back to 204 from 227 and I’m chasing it down one way or another. Day by day I’m feeling myself again, my confidence is coming back, and there’s a lot of bright opportunities on the horizon. Let’s get it.

Man, AI in meteorology is such a big topic rn! What Cameron says here is spot on imo. The experts in the field will always have a job. Might AI models and warning systems become a thing of common occurrence? Yes. But they get all the knowledge from the research of us. Humans.
🧵 of my opinions on AI in meteorology. There are many, many ways this could be good for operations. I worry it might not be as good for science. I think of it as detection vs. diagnosis. AI can be trained to detect anything, but only we as scientists can make the diagnosis.

Just because everyone is doing their own thing with AI in meteorology now, doesn’t mean they’re gonna be doing all the work for us. The new revised EF scale certainly isn’t made by AI!
