This is nephew of Mullah Abdullah Sarhadi. Published conversations raise serious questions about his alleged involvement in conduct the Taliban itself condemns as “bacha bazi” & “sodomy.” This highlights the apparent double standards in the Taliban’s treatment of LGBTQI+ people.

Five years have passed, and Afghan girls are still denied education. An entire generation is losing its future. The international community must move beyond statements and take action. Education is a fundamental right, not a privilege. #LetAfghanGirlsLearn #Afghanistan #FWN

Taliban Female Police: Two Black Shadows in the Uniform of Security! In other countries, police officers wear uniforms that make people feel safe when they see them. But in Afghanistan, they are covered in black from head to toe, making it hard to tell whether you’re looking at police officers or two moving shadows from a horror movie! 😛

Day 1871: 🏫 Girls barred from secondary schools. Day 1411: 🎓 Women barred from universities. 🇦🇫 Every girl banned from education is a potential teacher lost. The inhumane treatment of an elderly Afghan man by Pakistani police is gut wrenching. I wish we could move Afghanistan to the edge of the earth, with no neighbours, no imported terrorists, and no one interfering in our lives. Just leave us the fuck alone so we can live in peace in our own country and never be forced to flee again.

“When Ignorance Wears the Garb of Religion: Defending the Taliban While #Afghanistan Girls Pay the Price for Being Denied Education!” #Dr_Zakir_Naik! You claim that the #Taliban have closed schools to girls because of a shortage of female teachers. Then where are all the educated male and female teachers of Afghanistan? Have thousands of teachers not been left unemployed, sitting at home in despair and frustration? Have many male teachers not been forced to turn to pushing handcarts and street vending just to earn enough to feed their families? What an extraordinary shortage! The teachers are there, the students are there, and the schools are there, yet there is no willingness to open the doors of education! Afghanistan’s problem is not a shortage of teachers; it is a shortage of rational thinking, proper management, and basic fairness. Even more disturbing is that some people from outside the country are trying to justify this deprivation in the name of religion! #Zakir_Naik @drzakiranaik Dr Zakir Naik

Today, the ICC unsealed two further arrest warrants in the Afghanistan situation, again concerning the crime against humanity of gender persecution. One particularly significant aspect is the Court’s recognition that persecution under the Taliban’s gender system is not limited to women and girls. The warrants also address people targeted because their sexuality, gender identity or gender expression does not conform to the Taliban’s imposed gender norms. For LGBTIQ+ people, this matters enormously. It strengthens the understanding that gender persecution can also capture persecution based on non-conformity with imposed gender roles, identities and expressions. This is an important development for accountability in Afghanistan, and potentially far beyond it.
