Naruto is a slightly above average shonen protagonist. He doesn’t have the deep and nuanced writing that Sasuke has. He’s a passive and reactive character, while Sasuke is a proactive character, being the main force driving the plot forward. Sasuke character arc and development is leaps and bounds ahead of that of Naruto. Even Kishimoto himself admitted that Sasuke is the more relatable and realistic character, but because of the series being a shonen, he had to keep the things optimistic and even unrealistic when it came to Naruto’s character.
