Yeah after a recent replay I'm very confident in saying that Sonic 3 & Knuckles is extremely mediocre from game design standpoint and the single most shallow classic sonic game. Its merits really do shine the most from a hyper casual lense because oh my god so much of it is bad

This is so ironic because the literal creator of this character Naoto Oshima has this to say about what Sonic is supposed to be What makes Sonic special isn't that he's relatable not even close, his convictions drive the story forward not the other way around 1/2

Okay— So I 100% agree with OP here. Yes, Sonic should always have an unbreakable spirit, and keep going no matter what. But the fact of the matter is, he is a living person, not a fairytale. He should always inspire, but he should also feel like a character with real emotions.
