If you're struggling to finish a book (or start one) I have a couple openings in the fall 2024 course. (This summer's courses, both regular and accelerated, are full.) DM if you're interested - we will zoom at least a couple of times to make sure it's a fit before you enroll.
There are still a couple of spots in the January section of Unleash the Book, if you're trying to finish (or start) a book. Classes meet Monday evenings on Zoom. If you're interested, DM me - we'll talk on zoom and make sure it's a good fit for your writing before you sign up.

Trump still has the sauce. No one else could have made picks like these. Every selection is like drafting a kicker in the first round but the kicker has a Wikipedia section titled Allegations and is also not really a kicker

I can't figure out if vaccines work or not.
Tough one. I can see why RFK Jr is so concerned.
Need Sherlock Holmes on this one.

Disturbing: A big reason Trump won was undecideds couldn't be persuaded that millions of jobs lost in 2020 and death of Roe were Trump's fault, internal Harris campaign polling showed. Biden/Ds let Trump rehab himself to disastrous effect.

Folks, I know what happened Tuesday is terrible. But recall that in the 2020 election, Rs lost six of the same seven battleground states, lost the popular vote by 7 million votes, lost the Senate, and had lost the House. I don't recall an outpouring of "GOP soul searching" stories at the time. And two years later, Rs won back the House, and now they've won the presidency.
Similarly, after 2016, it felt horrible for Dems. Two years after that, Dems won back the House, and two years later won the presidency. Yes, some of the realignments we're seeing are deeply concerning and require some serious analysis/learning. Yes, in some ways, Trump's victory was larger than Biden's in 2020. But not *that much* larger, as noted above (on pop vote, it's now 5 million and counting versus 7 million for Biden). There's time to learn and regroup and it's perfectly plausible that things turn back around next cycle. That's just how this works. Back and forth. The task now is to pull together and limit the damage Trump can do.

If you work at a government agency, CDC, FDA, CIA, FBI, NASA, NTSB, NOAA, anywhere, you need to start saving every gig of data you can find. Studies, organizational charts, employee manuals, policies and procedures.
Anything that can be used to recreate your agency from scratch.

Someone was being pro-Trump at work, I told them “do you know your position is paid for by SPED dollars, which will go away if he gets rid of the DOE?”
They were dumbfounded

The Upcoming Pardon-Palooza

As people count Democratic seats in the House, keep in mind that Henry Cuellar could easily be induced to switch parties with a pardon.

One fun thing about the GOP victory party today has been observing the spread of about 80 percent "that'll teach the media to fib about Trump wanting to be an authoritarian!" with 20 percent this:

I live in WV and the state has been showered with funding and there are factories popping up everywhere and the state has 1b surplus and dems defended pensions and black lung funding and they voted 70% for Trump so shut the fuck up
Bernie Sanders, in response to Trump’s win:

Update: Several of the migrants I’ve been speaking with say they would have voted for Trump themselves. Most are folks who crossed the border illegally in the last 2-3 years. They don’t believe Trump will deport them, because they are here to work and are “not criminals.”
