We are a mission first, customer focused company. Adding Merlin data helps us serve our customers and advance our mission as we deliver MDA intelligence. But we aren’t the only ones delivering MDA products. We have many competitors offering products and services that can benefit customers, too.
We’re not gatekeepers. We’re customer focused, not competitor focused. That means we’ll offer imagery alone, analytics, or any part of the value we create at a fair price to customers in friendly nations; including our competitors.
If you need our products, whether you’re an end customer or a competitor building something with our data, we’re open and happy to do business. We don’t have to be the only provider involved for the mission and the customer to win.
Mission first. Customer first! @SynMaxInt
Satellogic and @SynMaxInt are collaborating on next-generation maritime domain awareness through our upcoming Merlin constellation.
Through this agreement, SynMax’s Theia platform will exclusively deliver Merlin-driven maritime intelligence—pairing near-daily 1m-class imagery and co-collected AIS data with AI analytics to track dark vessels, monitor sanctions evasion, and combat IUU fishing.
Together, we are transforming maritime domain awareness from episodic image collection into persistent monitoring at scale.

Persistent Global Intelligence is a much bigger deal for SATL IMO. I didn’t see as much of a reaction to that as I expected.
Satellite companies face a frustrating constraint. They are unintentionally competing with ground based sensors because they can’t scale their biggest use case advantage: object location discovery.
To task a satellite you pick a location and they charge by the square kilometer. That inherently limits them to cases where you already know the target location. When you already know location the value of a satellite image is what additional intelligence can be pulled from a new image of the known location. That favors higher resolution, high revisit and low latency. Compared to ground based sensors satellites lose on all those qualities.
A satellites real advantage is location search. For a use case where you don’t know the targets location ground sensors are at a disadvantage meanwhile satellites are flying around the fucking earth. Think searching for a moving target like a mobile rocket launcher. Satellites pass over your target and every target location constantly according to their revisit rate.
So why don’t they just let you know when they found your target? Lots of reasons: downlink bandwidth and processing mostly. In short the satellite has no idea it’s over anything important and it can only download so many images anyways. SATL solved that problem with Merlin’s edge compute and some novel AI that lets them profile targets in mass, persistently match them to your target and (for a fee) tell you where anything is anywhere on the face of the earth instantly. Read that last line again, every adversary tank, convoy, rocket launcher, aircraft, supply vehicle all of it everywhere.
Governments spend billions hunting and pecking with satellites to try and find these things like searching a dark room with a flashlight . SATL is turning on the lights.
(Everywhere except the ocean of course, that’s where we come in 😉.)

I saw this first as a quant: there was never a shortage of data, just no way to turn the flood into a decision. That problem is why we built Theia Agents. Nice to see @Forbes covering how our AI is finally unmasking the shadow fleet. bit.ly/4oTw0py

Satellogic and SpaceKnow Partner to Extend Persistent Global Intelligence Across Commercial and Government Markets - investors.satellogic.com/new…
This is the second key partnership @Satellogic has formed within the last week adding @spaceknow and @SynMaxInt forming a select group of "early partners in Satellogic's emerging agentic intelligence ecosystem". This is the first time I've heard the company refer to there next "Agentic Intelligence System" which could be the next extension of the Aleph Observer. Interested to get your takes @loco_dela_bolsa @gmpnavi
My read is that the Merlin constellation is the key draw here. A scalable, low-cost, high-revisit infrastructure layer is exactly what enables third-party developers to build persistent analytics on top something that has historically been constrained by cost and access to imagery
The PGI Infrastructure that the partnership is bult on "enables a seamless, end-to-end intelligence loop through the combination of the infrastructure — satellites, imagery, and native analytics capabilities from Satellogic — as well as interoperable agents and analytics capabilities delivered through partners, like SpaceKnow"
Key Quote
“Working with Satellogic gives us access to one of the most ambitious Persistent Global Intelligence infrastructures being built today, For more than a decade, our customers have been constrained by the cost and frequency of the underlying imagery. Satellogic’s economics and the upcoming Merlin constellation change that calculus, allowing us bring continuous, decision-ready monitoring, such as pattern-of-life analysis and anomalous event detection, to use cases that were previously out of reach said Jerry Javornicky, CEO and Co-Founder of SpaceKnow.
Spaceknow
Operates across two key markets that overlap with @Satellogic. Defense & Intelligence is their main market but they are also players in the Construction monitoring market as well. There product is called Guardian and is a advanced analytical platform that detects shifts, updates, or developments as they happen in real time.
This seems like the Aleph observer on steroids. This is something @spaceknow has been doing for a while as I was able to find a case study dating back to 2018 about there help fighting ISIS forces in Iraq - spaceknow.com/case-studies/t…
Lastly, to me the strategic takeaway is that Satellogic is not trying to build the entire analytics stack in-house. Instead, they appear to be positioning themselves as the infrastructure + platform layer, while pulling in specialized partners to build application-specific intelligence on top.
If that framing is correct, this starts to look less like a satellite company and more like an emerging geospatial intelligence platform

🚨 Elaborate tanker identity theft scam used to hide Houthi trade
A tanker stranded in Ukraine for more than three years suddenly re-emerged in the Middle East this summer in what appears to be a sophisticated identity theft scheme aimed at circumventing US sanctions on Yemen’s Houthi faction.
The 1999-built, Dongfushan (IMO: 9185853) has been trapped in Dneprobugskiy since 2022, but its AIS unexpectedly began transmitting again near Muscat, Oman on June 19 on its way to Houthi-held Ras Isa port in Yemen.
The real Dongfushan, however, was thousands of miles away.
The uncovering of Dongfushan’s identity thief subsequently exposed a complex effort to conceal voyages into Ras Isa, that skirted both US sanctions and the United Nations Verification and Inspection Mechanism for Yemen (UNVIM).
Big thanks to the team at @SynMaxInt for their help in piecing the puzzle.

I had the privilege of working with @SynMaxInt to generate this map of global fishing. They’re doing cool things over there. Keep your eyes open for updates
At SynMax, we are dedicated to protecting the sustainability of our oceans by tackling illegal, unregulated, and unreported (IUU) fishing head-on. To do so, our maritime domain awareness platform, Theia, analyses and fuses multiple data sources, including global AIS and more than 25 million KM2 of over-ocean satellite imagery.
One might question the effectiveness of AIS data in tracking vessels that typically deactivate their AIS to engage in IUU fishing. Yet, historical AIS data is invaluable for predicting potential hotspots of such illicit activities. A telling example is the noticeable absence of AIS tracks within the Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs) of nations like Peru, Ecuador, Chile, Senegal, Liberia, and Angola, despite intense fishing activity just outside these zones. This pattern supports the theory that vessels turn off their AIS as they cross into vulnerable EEZs to engage in IUU fishing.
Theia leverages broad-scale satellite imagery as its primary means of vessel detection, empowering us to track ships regardless of their AIS status. This capability ensures that even the most vulnerable, remote areas are under vigilant surveillance and acts as a force multiplier for physical assets. By doing so, Theia protects marine biodiversity and bolsters the economic stability of communities dependent on sustainable fishing.
