Is a four day working week possible for Solicitors? (asks @TheLawSociety email circular) ... Let's start with the Courts (one can imagine the outcry) otherwise most of our clients (& us) will always remain reactive to (often challenging) demands of courts and their clients
Opps ... lawgazette.co.uk/news/costs-… Fee earner details are basic info that should always be provided, but perhaps the draftee felt some reluctance because ... ummm ... there were 33 (33!) fee earners who carried out work!

There are some at TL that argue for the removal of any/all guideline rates for "city" work. These cases rarely "fit" with the intended use of GHR (if you read the notes to GHR). It might be better (in our opinion) to simply have national guideline rates for consumers only

Will be interesting to see how the "new" GHRs (if rolled out) plays out at the SCCO and if it would scupper cases like this lawgazette.co.uk/news/costs-… Where an increase of 30% (to 65%) was considered "exceptionally large"

The "new" GHR are just proposals at the moment albeit the final report "doubles down" on its recommendations. It is creating a lot of buzz but in DA SCCO hearings the GHR often have little effect anyway. Be interesting to see if that changes.

CJC report suggest Guideline rates could do with a ‘modest’ increase. The proposed range is from £512 (London 1, Grade A) to £126 (National 2, Grade D) with limited amendments to the geographical areas.

For opponents of the opponent: May we suggest exhibiting this when applying for indemnity costs! :-)
Can't see how this advert does much to enhance the reputation of the legal profession. I'd prefer my opposing side to respect rather than dread facing me.
What with the cold, and the rain, and the covid, and the Brexit, and the WFH and cancelled Christmas parties it brought a smile to see the Christmas tree go up in our courtyard
