Tweeting about a range of stuff - and not following an arbitrary 'party line' on anything - means I end up with followers who might be disappointed that I'm not a cheerleader for 'their team' (regardless of the topic).
So, thanks for following, but consider yourselves warned :)

Day 11, Ch11: On my way back to Brisbane. This one reminded me of the benefits of long term investing. Also of business strengths including moats, margins and management. Also, Scott’s LOVE of ASX stock acronyms 😆😆😆

The first sentence will get all of the attention.
Just remember to put it in context with the second-last sentence.

Something newer. Probably not nerdier (because that'd be hard!).
On the back of The Budget Picture, I built The Inflation Picture to unpack what's happening to prices.
It's hopefully an interesting and useful tool for those who want to learn more.

Something new - and nerdy - from me!
I’ve built The Budget Picture: an independent guide to Australia’s Federal Budget.
Where the money comes from. Where it goes. And how it changes.
Official figures, with plain-English explanations.
Feedback welcome.

About time.
This is far smarter than 'charge them over Medicare hacks'.
This is the pattern for the future.

Bartender: "I didn't get him drunk, it was the other guy."
Me: "You're still serving him drinks!"
Bartender: "But he was already drunk"
No, not a real scene - a metaphor for the government blaming overseas factors for inflation (true, in part), but still making it worse.
This isn't new from me.
But I have to say it again, and with feeling.
The RBA is in this position, in part, because Federal and State governments are doing nothing material to help.
Mortgage-payers are getting it in the neck because our pollies are gutless.
Simple as that.

Random Australiana tip:
If you can't remember how to spell Woolloomooloo, think 'sheep, toilet, cow, toilet'

Anyone else know where NAB's bailout is, to protect those 2,500 jobs?
Surely the PM and State Premiers are meeting right now to work out a package.
What? They're not? Are only politically-attractive jobs worth saving? Only those with hardhats and high-vis?
Gotcha!

This is... not good for rates.
No guarantee they'll hike them, but 'materially worse', is pretty stark.

Clearly both. Plus the property slowdown.
Slow economic growth, plus cost inflation, means costs threaten to grow faster than income.
And banking is essentially a technology business these days - putting it squarely in the path of AI disruption.

On a much lighter note, for those of us who need it, Marco Jansen is batting beautifully for South Africa in the Test against Australia right now.
Some of the crispest stroke play I've seen in a while.
#AUSvSA
He's scoring quickly, but with classic cricket strokes. One of the best on-drives I've seen in a while.
