ALT This evening, while the people of Toronto were reeling from the overturning of Roe V. Wade and/or gearing up for Pride weekend, the Toronto Police decided to descend on the encampment in Clarence Square downtown and arrest one of the residents, an Indigenous man named Jordn. Jordn, who has lived in his tiny shelter in Clarence Square for the better part of a year, was targeted and harassed by the City of Toronto, private security, and TPS last month, who threatened his arrest and the removal of his shelter based on an outdated warrant from Montreal, a warrant based on charges that have since been dropped.

ALT TPS has not informed anyone, including his legal team, of why Jordn was arrested today, or why he is being held at Division 52. A witness on the scene states that two bike cops were questioning park goers and gesturing towards the encampment, and that a verbal exchange between Jordn and the cops about harassing people in the park resulted in a call for backup. The witness to the arrest also states that during Jordn’s arrest, it was only after multiple people on site repeatedly asked why the arrest was happening that the leading officer said “I believe we have a warrant for his arrest”. Jordn was not served with a warrant at the time of his arrest.

ALT We suspect that TPS doesn’t have a warrant and that Jordn has been arrested and held by the police as yet another act of terror and intimidation against the unhoused population of this City. The so-called warrant doesn’t exist, as it was nullified when the Montreal crown attorney’s office dropped the old charges. After being alerted to this fact, Division 52 conveniently cannot locate Jordn’s arresting officers to confirm why he was arrested. We are asking for people to call Division 52 and demand that Jordn be released immediately.

Below title is written: On Thurs Mar 30 2022, housing advocate Nessa (Ezra) Amos was seen in crisis at Bathurst Station. After an incident involving TTC L, they were arrested &charged by TO Police, & then forcibly hospitalised. Less than 24 hrs later, Nessa was found dead close to Bathurst station. There are still many unanswered questions surrounding Nessa’s death. The TTC refuses to say anything about the altercation on Mar 30. TPS first said there was video of Nessa at the station, but have since claimed no video footage exists. A walk through of Bathurst TTC station shows there are at least 20 video surveillance cameras. Please help Nessa’s family and community demand immediate release of the footage, so they can seek the answers they deserve about Nessa’s death.
