Saying of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (ra) that the Holy Prophet (sa) said: the prayer of a servant is accepted so long as he does not pray for sin or for the severing of ties of kinship. [It is accepted] so long as he does not show haste. It was asked: “O Messenger of Allah (sa)! What is meant by haste?” He (sa) said: “He says, ‘I prayed, I prayed, but I do not see that He will accept my prayer.’ Then he grows weary and abandons prayer.” (Sahih Muslim, Kitab al-Dhikr wa’l-Du‘a wa’l-Tawbah wa’l-Istighfar, Bab Bayan annahu Yustajabu lid-Da‘i … etc., Hadith no. 4904, Nur Foundation numbering; 2735 in Fuad ‘Abd al-Baqi’s)
