Nearly 500,000 dead people and about 30,000 noncitizens were sitting on the voter rolls of the states that bothered to check.
That is what turned up when 25 to 27 states ran their rolls through DHS's free SAVE system, DHS senior counselor Heather Honey told The Drill Down. More than half the states refused to run it.
The check costs those states nothing, so the ones saying no owe their voters an explanation.
