A bit of an updated graphic, the violet dots along the trajectory of the aircraft are some of those visible from more than one point of view on available footage.
Take a note of the area with >21 airstrikes from ~5min before to ~34min after the explosion at the Al-Ahli hospital.
A good collection
A collection of alarming comments made *in the last four days* by seven different people who are inside the AI world ⬇️
Jacob Coxon, former AI researcher at Anthropic and OpenAI:
"The people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade.”
xitter.cf/hilbertspaess/status/2…
Samuel Marks, Scalable Oversight lead at Anthropic:
"AI developers believe their technology could cause human extinction (or similarly bad outcomes). This could happen in the next few years.”
xitter.cf/saprmarks/status/20975…
Evan Hubinger, Alignment Science lead at Anthropic:
"Jacob is correct here—we really do earnestly believe AI could kill all humans!”
xitter.cf/EvanHub/status/2097497…
Alex Turner, former Research Scientist at Google DeepMind:
"I left Google DeepMind in June. Jacob is right: many researchers believe they are building something that could kill everyone on the planet. It was literally my day job to think about how to stop that."
xitter.cf/Turn_Trout/status/2097…
Jakub Pachocki, Chief Scientist at OpenAI:
"This is a time that calls for extreme caution. I am concerned no one is prepared for the consequences of a continued rapid rise in machine intelligence.”
openai.com/index/an-alien-mi…
Jason Wolfe, Researcher at OpenAI:
"I don't know what my probabilities are on literal extinction, but I think there are a number of ways AI could go poorly for humanity, and at the current frankly terrifying pace humanity will be quite lucky if we manage to find and stay on the narrow path between all the bad outcomes.”
xitter.cf/w01fe/status/209754613…
Jonathan Richard Schwarz, former Senior Research Scientist at Google DeepMind:
"I left DeepMind after 7 years (and since rejected offers to join the other two) due to severe concerns about the concentration of power these labs represent. What is currently happening in this field is deeply unhealthy for society.”

Worth reading in full. It sets out the medical evidence, the drafting history that produced the loophole, and what a stronger prohibition would have to say. Full report: hrw.org/sites/default/files/… 3/3

New from @hrw and Harvard Law's International Human Rights Clinic: a report on white phosphorus and the loophole in international law that keeps it lawful.
It draws on whitephosphorus.info, the archive from my PhD, now at 286 strikes in south Lebanon, October 2023 to May 2026
Recent use of white phosphorus munitions by Israeli forces in Lebanon underscores the need for regulations. bit.ly/4idO2lb

How would this change if the option of peaceful negotiations is explicitly excluded as unrealistic given that the other side is not interested?

1/I liked his takes against Iranian monarchists until I found his abhorrent anti-Palestinian & anti-Muslim content. Not purity testing, but it’s really sad that 'anti-Zionists' like @History__Speaks & @Haqiqatjou are chummy w/ @sharghzadeh b/c they share a tankie view of Iran.

Just in case, here is "Alignment Science lead" from Anthropic:
For those who have not yet read this thread.
To make it easier to find, Haaretz, Netanyahu, 7/10, 7 Oct, release of civilian hostages
Ha'aretz reports that Hamas, through Qatar, conveyed immediately on Oct. 7 that they were willing to return all the civilian hostages for nothing -- their only ask was for a mediator to arrange the exchange and establish a connection to then negotiate the further release of the soldiers. Israel refused to talk or hear about it.
So Qatar reached out to Antony Blinken to let him know that Hamas was willing to release all the civilian hostages.
Blinken told Qatar he didn't want to hear it because "Israel is still under attack, and there's no one to talk to."
Blinken had the opportunity to free every single civilian hostage and de-escalate the situation. Instead he wanted war.

One more totally fucking nuts graph for today, care of a request by @LeonSimons8.
Not only is the current standard deviation for the Nino 3.4 sea-surface temperature above 4SD over the 1982-2011 mean for the first time on record, but no previous year even reached 3SD.
A deportation flight with up to 150 Palestinians is to depart on Thursday, 9/10, according to Doctors Against Genocide, which learned of the flight.
The deportees would be faced with the immediate threat of torture and detention without charge.
Tareq Zakarneh is expected to be on the flight.
Forget boycotts for very valid moral reasons for a moment
At this point any country still relying on anything remotely israeli in their critical infrastructure is just suicidal lol
2 hours and 35 minutes after the UK announced a ban on goods from Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, NATS, the UK’s air traffic control provider, is experiencing a “technical issue” that's grounding all flights at the UK’s largest airports.

The two legally significant statements made by Foreign Secretary @FCDOGovUK Miliband @Ed_Miliband this afternoon deserve particular attention.
First, the United Kingdom has now stated formally and publicly that Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territory is unlawful. It is an official expression of the UK’s legal position, and therefore relevant evidence of opinio juris, aligning the Government with the central conclusion of the @CIJ_ICJ 2024 Advisory Opinion: Israel’s continued presence in the occupied Palestinian territory is unlawful, arising from serious violations of peremptory norms of international law, including the prohibition on the acquisition of territory by force.
Second, the UK expressly acknowledged the findings of the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry @UN_HRC, stating that its conclusions form part of the “increasing evidence” that war crimes appear to have been committed in Gaza since 2023, and affirming support for legal processes determining responsibility.
These are not incidental changes of language. They mark a significant clarification of the United Kingdom’s legal position: on the unlawfulness of Israel’s continued presence in the occupied Palestinian territory, and on the mounting evidence of atrocity crimes committed in Gaza.

The specific place where the cut occurs

This is not too much, but more that I've expected. I have a bit of hope this step would make the following steps easier.
BREAKING: Twelve countries issued a joint statement announcing national bans on trade in goods from illegal Israeli settlements:
🇫🇷 France
🇬🇧 United Kingdom
🇨🇦 Canada
🇩🇰 Denmark
🇪🇸 Spain
🇫🇮 Finland
🇮🇪 Ireland
🇮🇸 Iceland
🇳🇴 Norway
🇵🇱 Poland
🇵🇹 Portugal
🇸🇪 Sweden
Macron, UK PM Burnham, and Canadian PM Carney agreed the situation is deteriorating with "unprecedented" settler violence and settlement expansion, specifically calling the E1 project "inadmissible."
They salute measures already taken by Ireland, Spain, Netherlands, Norway, and Belgium.
The statement demands Israel immediately stop settlement expansion, hold violent settlers accountable, and investigate allegations against Israeli forces.
They "firmly oppose any action resulting in the annexation of Palestinian lands or forced displacement."
