The UK effectively privatised a series of monopolies. I am all for open market capitalism, but trying to apply this to a monopoly doesnt work. Each area in the UK only has one supplier of water, such as Thames Water for London, creating a monopoly. The water companies have taken the opportunity to asset strip the former publicly owned entities, selling off reservoirs and storage sites to developers for huge profits, directors being paid large salaries and bonuses, with ever increasing dividends being sent to foreign owners who have little to no care for the British public. It has been profit before delivery of a basic human right - access to water. All whilst dumping raw sewage into rivers and lakes, almost unchecked by a weak water regulator that also turns a seemingly blind eye to the lack of maintenance and upgrading investment into often Victorian age infrastructure. There is no competition or strong oversight, so water companies have behaved badly and been poorly run. And when it has inevitably gone wrong, the water companies have run to the govt for a public money bailout. This is not workable and must change. londondaily.com/thames-water…

Labour will shift power from Westminster to the World Economic Forum’s business interests, giving them more control over your area with C40 cities, pay per mile. More money in corporate pockets.

I’m not against pedestrianisation per se. But Oxford Street is a soulless, commercialised grot pit. Were we expecting it become a convivial Parisian (of old) boulevard with cafe culture, people smoking Gitanes & musing on Sartre? It seems they’ve just put up concrete blocks?
Good morning, pedestrianised Oxford Street. 🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🚶🏻

In his ideal London, his limousine and its security retinue would be the only vehicles allowed on the roads. Bicycles, rickshaws and shank's pony for the plebs.
A new era for Oxford Street starts now.

Marcelo Bielsa on modern football: “I am sure that football is in a process of decline. “It is becoming less and less attractive because what made it the best game in the world is not there anymore. “If you let a lot of people watch football, but you don't protect the pleasure of what they watch, that favours business, because the business is that a lot of people watch football. “For me, the introduction of technology like VAR does a lot of harm to football. “This sport has a particularity: when it becomes completely predictable, it loses its appeal. “As time passes, as fewer and fewer footballers are worth watching and as the game produced is less and less enjoyable, this artificial increase in the number of spectators will be interrupted.” Good to see people like him calling it out 👏

If the truth can be branded hate speech, and punished as such, you live in a tyranny. The days of warning what was coming, are in the past. It's already here. Whether we accept it as the new normal or not, will be defining for future generations.

Peter Bleksley is a typical old boomer. Lived the easy life through the glory years of the UK and watched it get increasingly hard for young people as the state turned nits back on us more and more. Now, he has the brass neck to sit there and call people cowards because they won't go to die in a manufactured war for the elite class and a government that completely hates them. @PeterBleksley go fuck yourself, how about we send your sons first.
‘I am utterly DISGUSTED by your rampant, pathetic cowardice.’ Former Metropolitan Police detective Peter Bleksley BLASTS @alexarmstrong after he suggested he wouldn’t fight for his country.

This is an interesting advert @CEO4TAG - maybe there are fans that pay to go to matches to be part of a raw, passionate, fan-lead atmosphere? Not songs blasted over a PA, light shows and goal music. #cpfc

This sums it up well. My Mexican friends tell me this same thing. There is no left or right in the Technate. There is only the algorithm. And those who own it.
Morena will stay in power. The window for American intervention has closed, if it was ever open in the first place. The United States does not overthrow governments that comply. It disciplines them. Mexico has been disciplined, and Mexico complies. In September, Rubio said Mexico's fight against the cartels "is not nearly enough" and that the U.S. would confront those organizations "one way or another". He also claimed that vast territories of Mexico are controlled by narco-terrorist organizations rather than the state. Yet this is pressure, not regime change. Rubio himself said he does not want to disrupt the relationship with Mexico, citing his rapport with Sheinbaum. Although Rubio would certainly prefer an ideological ally, he does not need one. He needs results on fentanyl, migration, and Chinese transshipment, and he is getting them. What guarantees this arrangement is the succession. The key variable is 2030. Omar García Harfuch is not an ideologue. He is a career police officer from a family of the old security state. Polls place him at 40% of Morena sympathizers' preferences for the 2030 candidacy. Velasco of the Green Party openly promoted him, Washington reportedly backed him, and Morena's hardliners distrust him. He publicly rules out running, saying his priority is security, but that denial is standard Mexican ritual. If Harfuch is the heir, Washington gets a security partner and right-leaning man inside a left-wing party. The same logic explains the foreign policy theater. Morena is, in large part, a continuation of PRI-style governance. Its cordial ties with Havana and its silence on Managua are not alignment but leverage. Refusing to condemn the Cuban and Nicaraguan dictatorships costs little and buys the appearance of independence. Washington understands this perfectly and allows it. It knows Mexico is not following the Cuban path. The rhetoric is domestic consumption and negotiating posture. In substance, the Mexican state is bound to the American one. The old PRI played the same game for decades: nationalism in the speeches, but the U.S. interests in the decisions. At home, the road from 2024 to mid-2026 was bumpy. Sheinbaum had to govern with a party built around another man, and the AMLO loyalists held key positions. That has largely been resolved. In February, Adán Augusto López left Morena's Senate coordination, with Ignacio Mier taking formal control while the Tabasco politician moved to "territorial work". Reports also emerged that Andy López Beltrán would leave the party's organization secretariat, to be replaced by Citlalli Hernández. The lesson of Mexican history applies: the outgoing caudillo's network always erodes. Calles fell to Cárdenas. Every PRI president eventually emancipated himself from his predecessor. Sheinbaum is following the script. Here lies the modern caveat. The PRI controlled people through unions, peasant leagues, and patronage. Morena is building control through data. The biometric CURP took effect after a decree was published, with reforms backed by Sheinbaum and Morena. It incorporates facial recognition and fingerprints to verify citizens' identity. Mobile phone lines were tied to registered owners, and unregistered lines were to be disabled after June 30, 2026, allowing only emergency calls. It is also linked to social programs and pensions, including registering for and collecting benefits. Combine this with direct cash transfers, and the state no longer needs union intermediaries. It knows who you are, where your phone is, and what money you receive. This is corporatism without corporations. The patron-client relationship has become individualized and digitized.
