Better Home & Finance and Coinbase just launched a mortgage product where you pledge bitcoin as collateral for a second loan that covers your down payment. Fannie Mae has agreed to purchase these loans like any other conforming mortgage. Same rates. Same protections. No private mortgage insurance on the collateral loan.
You don't sell your bitcoin. You don't trigger a tax event. Your crypto stays in custody and comes back when the loan is repaid.
For anyone sitting on bitcoin but short on cash for a down payment — that barrier just disappeared.
