This tweet is spot on to OU’s issues! Great analogy James!💯
OU’s offense has 2 major roadblocks keeping them from realizing their full potential.
1. QB cannot process the game quick enough. He has the arm talent, he knows the plays. His reaction time from seeing the field to making a decision is just too slow. That’s why balls are overthrown, underthrown, or held until sacked. It’s rarely happening on time or in sync.
2. No killer instinct. This is a result of coaching. This team operates with the idea that the defense kills the opponent, and the offense avoids killing itself. This offense does not look like they are lead, or held to the expectation to go out and take souls. It’s purely look for safe and easy gains, and prioritize field position over points.
All of this is a result of coaching philosophy. With QB they value practice evaluation over game evaluation. The speed of the SEC has been too much for Mateer since he got there. He’s protected in practice, it’s much easier to look good with no threat. When they say “he gives us the best chance to win”, it’s because they view it through the lens of not expecting killer instinct plays. They want safe short passes and runs that get them to a good punting position. Their whole offensive strategy to dink your way up to field, and over the course of the game you’ll get a couple drives that keep going long enough to score.
Under Lebby and DG, the offense was looking to kill. I think Brent blamed that for leading to defensive struggles. So he changed his offensive philosophy to be more about preservation, and less about aggression. All to obtain “complimentary football”. That’s flawed though, because it has always been about “the offense is hurting the defense”. Everything is built around defense as the main act, and offense as the passive support group.
BV needs to figure this stuff out, or he’ll continue to solidify himself as a failure as a head coach.
22/29 283 yards 2 td and most importantly no interceptions or fumbles! I’ve been very critical of John Mateer for the past month and have been advocating for his benching. Today, I can admit he had a great game and the best game of the year for him in a road environment. He balled out! Kudos to #10!
Just sitting here pondering about OU football season lost then thought, whatever happened to the San Diego chicken??🤣🙃
The Thunder open the NBA season with a very impressive 116-104 Win over the rival Spurs in San Antonio. Our 3-7 footers all played well and frustrated Wemby all night! SGA in MVP form had 32 points #thunderup
Those that didn’t see this coming watches very little football🤷🏻♂️
Oklahoma Sooners' quarterback issue is even worse when you really take a step back and look at what Michael Hawkins Jr. is doing #oklahomasooners #sooners #oklahomasports #soonersports #boomersooner ift.tt/KoRIMJg
You know the Apocalypse is upon you when your own head coach says this! God have mercy on Sooner Nation under @CoachVenables
While the #Sooners scored only 13 points and turned the ball over four times, HC Brent Venables was pleased with the offense's overall performance vs. Kentucky.
"That’s maybe the best that we've played since our first game on offense."

Isn’t he the HC? Why give him a pass tonight? He is stubborn about benching the Worst QB in school history! I got it, Let’s go ahead and give him a lifetime contract because he is a culture coach! Screw the winning history at our lustrous school!
Will this staff stop being so stubborn on not benching Mateer🤷🏻♂️With him at QB we are a .500 team at best by end of season!
It’s amazing how this mouth of the south self soothes🤣🤣🤣 Finger pointing now and can’t admit that Texass and Arch are both overrated and teams are now exposing their weakness. Bad news for him is it won’t be the last L of his season!!! B🅾️🅾️MER “Freaking” S🅾️🅾️NER! 🐊x2 in a row!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
For those that are raising a debate on Cotton Bowl or Home and Home series has no clue of the long storied history of this series! I have lived the last 55 years of it! I’ve noticed it is mainly Millennials and Gen Z who are doing it for clicks. These are the same generations that get butt hurt if their child doesn’t get a participation trophy! This game should forever be in the Cotton Bowl!
