We did a bit of research using our Battery & Build Check: this one is a plain 2026 Model Y All-Wheel Drive, not Premium. CarMax has now listed the same car for $62,998.
Interesting thing is, last week Tesla had a 1,905 mi 2026 Model Y All-Wheel Drive (same trim) as Certified Pre-Owned for just $42,600, and it was gone within a day.
That’s why we ask people who are gonna buy a used Tesla to set an alert on TeslaTracker. You can literally save thousands of dollars just by using the free thing we’re offering.

And this is what our Battery & Build Check showed for the CarMax car, straight from Tesla’s records: battery at 95.8% of its capacity when new, HW4, no FSD, 18" Aperture wheels, built in Austin in April 2026.
Nice car, but the asking price is $20,898 above the fair range.

Since March, about 20 people have messaged us with some version of the same question about a used Tesla: is it HW3 or HW4, does it have FSD, and what's the battery health really?
Some of those messages were telling us we got it wrong. Here's what happened 🧵
The HW ones stung. We worked hardware out from VIN serial ranges and build dates, and one buyer called Tesla about a car we showed as HW4. It was HW3.
Battery was the same. Listings don't show it, so we estimated it. Often close, but still a guess on a $30k purchase.
So we started asking what Tesla's own record says. That became our Battery & Build Check.
