#Bears GM Ryan Poles, on trading for Jeffery Simmons, says that going back to 2018, every Super Bowl champion has had a high-level DT—and believes that’s vital for a team that wants to win it all.
(Fletcher Cox, Aaron Donald, Chris Jones, Vita Vea, Jalen Carter, Leonard Williams, etc.)
It makes plenty of sense just go back to last season and watch the last 5 games of the season. Bears generated Zero interior push. When it mattered most. That’s why we traded him. Kudos to him playing well in Atlanta but he’s not in the same realm as Jeffrey Simmons.
It doesn’t make any sense that the Bears dealt Gervon Dexter Sr cause he wasn’t a scheme fit but then traded for Jeffrey Simmons. They’re similar attacking style DTs. Don’t get me wrong Simmons is superior in his presence and body of work over the years but in this new home Dexter found in ATL he’s putting up similar production to Simmons in about half the snaps and he’s younger and costs less.
