Today is National Slap Your Coworker Day. I send this out to all the Band Office employees out there. It's also National Croc Wearing Day... so now you have a reason.
My new novel is out! Yay! Just in time for everybody to buy a dozen for their Christmas obligations.
I’m just saying….
Just did a day of lectures for a number of grade 11 English teachers in southern Ontario. One teacher told me their budget for books for the whole year was $ 100. Might as well buy some logs, send it to the wood shop, and make their own paper! 😱🤬
Today is National Day On Writing. Pour your heart out.
Hieroglyphs, Runes, Cuneiform, Rongorongo, and Sanskrit forms are acceptable.
My sweetheart who's West Coast, has been kind of run down last week, is having a serious craving for some fish. So I'm taking her to a nearby restaurant that serves the best pickerel. It's not salmon but some of us think... I better not say it.... nevermind.
I'm working up the energy and nerve to begin a new novel. For me, writing a novel is like running a marathon, gotta know where to begin and hopefully where it's going to end. In between is a lot of liquids, bathroom breaks, and wondering why the hell I'm doing this.
Looking at the dreamcatcher on my window, I must say it works. No nightmares. But I wish Indigenous scientists would come up with one to stop dreams of playing baseball without any pants. Just a suggestion.
Today in 1492, Columbus lands in the Bahamas. "Bahama" is actually an ancient Arawak word meaning "what's the worst that can happen?"
Today in 1701, Marie-Marguerite d'Youville, first Canadian canonized (founded the Order of Sisters of Charity of Montreal), born in Varennes, Quebec. Before dying, her husband made his fortune selling alcohol to Indigenous people for fur.
There are many ways to Heaven it seems.
Today in 1865, Cheyennes & Arapahos sign "peace treaty" then chased out of Colorado. They all left in their Winnebagos.
I don't know who organizes these things but there are two special days today that seem to conflict with each other. Today is National No Bra Day. It's also International Day for Disaster Reduction Day. Go figure?!
My family has a secret Santa tradition. Names are drawn at Thanksgiving. This year, one cousin who's about 22 picked a name but had difficulty reading it. He took it to his mother who read it for him.
The difficulty was it was written in cursive...
Sign of the times.
On this eve of Thanksgiving I saw a truly ironic image this morning. There were 3 wild turkeys waiting to cross the 401. Fingers crossed that story has a happy ending but I’m wondering if the same rules apply to turkeys, las with chickens, on why they want to cross the road?
To all my theatre friends out there, today is World Stage Management Day! Hooray! Ironically, its also World Mental Health Day. Coincidence? Regardless, take your favourite stage manager out for a bowl of porridge - it's also World Porridge Day.
Anne Carson has won the 2026 Nobel Prize for Literature. She is amazing. But unfortunately this means yet another unNobelled year for me. Sigh. But much like the philosophy of die-hard Maple Leafs fans, there's always next year.
Double sigh.
It is theorized that today in 1000 A.D., Leif Erikson and his group landed in Newfoundland. And thus Norwegian black metal music was introduced to the Beothuk. They were not big fans.
Today is Indian Air Force Day! Years ago as a kid, when I once heard that, I envisioned a sea of kites flying high above the Rez. I had so much to learn.
I’m just about to get a hair cut and I’ve always been told to never leave the cut hair behind. It’s bad luck or somebody could gather it do something mischievous with it. Do other people’s cultures have similar teachings?
Today in 1492, Columbus arbitrarily shifts course and heads more southwest, completely missing Florida. Otherwise, we'd all be going to ColumbusWorld in Orlando.
