DB DEVELOPMENT | PATIENCE IN PRESS MAN COVERAGE One of the biggest mistakes cornerbacks make in press coverage is opening their hips too early. The receiver has to get through YOU to get downfield. Don’t panic! Just because a receiver attacks your inside or outside shoulder doesn’t mean you have to immediately open up and run. If you have inside leverage, protect it and stay patient. The longer that receiver spends dancing at the line of scrimmage, the better it is for you. Remember, the quarterback is working against a pass rush. He needs a clean snap, protection from his offensive line, and his receiver to get open. You have more help than you think. At DUB Athletic, we teach our DBs to use a patient mirror step, keep their feet underneath their frame, and transition efficiently through the kick step. The magic happens in the kick step. Watch our athlete in this clip. When the receiver declares vertically, he uses his kick step to cut off the angle and meet the receiver upfield instead of immediately turning and chasing. This allows him to stay in position to defend quick routes like slants, hitches, and short in-breaking or out-breaking routes while still preparing for the vertical threat. Great press coverage isn’t about moving first. It’s about moving correctly. DFW defensive backs: Let’s work this offseason! Outside DFW? DB DEVELOPMENT | OFF-COVERAGE MOVEMENT Most defenses play some form of off coverage, which means defensive backs must learn how to play in space. Whether you’re a corner or safety, playing in space requires understanding your leverage, down and distance, receiver splits, alignments, and offensive formations. The No. 1 priority in off coverage is protecting your leverage. In this clip, the defender is playing inside leverage, protecting against inside-breaking routes while keeping his outside foot ready to drive upfield if the receiver threatens vertically. Notice how both DBs transition when the receiver declares upfield. They lean toward the receiver to close space and reduce separation. One of the biggest mistakes DBs make is transitioning upfield while leaving too much room between themselves and the receiver. That extra space gives quarterbacks more room to place the football and receivers more opportunities to make difficult catches. The goal is simple: protect your leverage, recognize the route, and close space as efficiently as possible. At DUB Athletic, we don’t just teach DBs how to move. We teach them WHY they’re moving and how their positioning affects the play. DFW defensive backs: Tap in with us this offseason. Outside DFW? Did I just see Julian Caldwell bend !!??? Yea life is crazy 😂😂😂🔥🔥
Argyle offense is on fire led by sophomore Cobe Wilson at QB. He has 2 TD already. Here’s a 59 yard strike to ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Texas Tech commit Julian Caldwell, who takes it into the end zone. Argyle up 21-0 vs Colleyville Heritage (5:47 Q1). #TXHSFB

The truth about sports performance is that people will always promote whatever is “new” or “in,” regardless of its quality, effectiveness, or standards. When it fails to deliver, they simply move on to the next trend. The coaches who prioritize education, sound principles, and genuinely doing right by their athletes don’t have to chase trends. They stay committed to the process, maintain their standards, and continue making a meaningful difference for the people they serve and the people that matter.

I can’t wait until Aaron retires. He’s gonna be on podcasts going nuclear on the league. 😭😭
#Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers was asked about the Jalen Hurts situation: He says he doesn’t know enough about it but has never seen eye-to-eye with the NFL’s lead medical person, so he’s not surprised.

LB DEVELOPMENT | FOOT PLACEMENT IS EVERYTHING. Playing linebacker requires the ability to move explosively while keeping your shoulders and hips square to the line of scrimmage. Whether you’re tracking backside and triggering downhill against the run, redirecting on a read option, or breaking laterally or at a 90-degree angle in pass coverage, your foot placement determines how quickly you can change direction. One of the biggest mistakes linebackers make is overstepping or taking unnecessary steps before redirecting. Those extra steps cost valuable time. That’s why we train our linebackers to put their foot in the ground, drive explosively through their hips, and transition without wasting movement. Quick feet are important, but efficient feet are what make you faster. Redirection is a technique. It has to be taught, trained, and repeated until it becomes second nature. At DUB Athletic, we develop linebackers who can read, react, redirect, and explode. DFW linebackers: Tap in and train with us this offseason. Outside DFW? WR DEVELOPMENT | OUR RECEIVERS DON’T SLIP OUT OF BREAKS. Running a comeback, curl, or hinge route at full speed and dropping on a dime without losing your balance is not easy. It’s one of the first things we teach our wide receivers at DUB Athletic. Anybody can run a fade, post, or corner route. But can you run full speed for 8–12 yards, maintain the correct pad level, control your body position, and explode out of your break at the proper angle? More importantly, can you sell the vertical route? A good receiver makes the DB respect the deep ball. Even if the defender anticipates a break, your body language shouldn’t tell him which direction you’re going. That’s why we teach our receivers to make every route look the same until it’s time to separate. Same speed. Same stem. Same body language. Different finish. We don’t just teach routes. We teach receivers how to manipulate defenders, control their movements, and create separation. DFW wide receivers: This is where you need to be this offseason. Tap in! Outside DFW? RB DEVELOPMENT | THE ART OF THE JUMP CUT The jump cut is one of the best tools a running back can use to manipulate linebackers at the second level. Every running back hears their coach say, “Press the hole!” But why? When you press the hole, you force linebackers to commit. A well-timed jump cut allows you to abruptly shift into another gap, forcing defenders to adjust. Playing running back is a cat-and-mouse game with linebackers. You’re constantly trying to influence their movement while they’re reading yours. The jump cut is also a great escape tool when things get muddy in the backfield. Whether it’s defensive linemen getting penetration or linebackers blitzing before the play develops, the jump cut allows you to move laterally while keeping your shoulders square to the line of scrimmage. This is how we develop our running backs at DUB Athletic. We teach the purpose behind the movement, not just the drill. DFW running backs: Tap in and train with us. Outside DFW?
