I have a fundamental problem when we (white women) call the people we consume services from (nail/lash/hair/cleaning etc) our '<insert service> girl' So I've always called Ahlaina a 'nail artist' and it always makes her laugh, but today she showed me her new 'Owner' nameplate...

This was so fun to write.
If you told 5-year-old me that a Sesame Street skit would stick with me many years later, I’d have thought you were a crazy old person...Read the new column by Eva Reid and see the lessons she's applying to her #geospatial career: ow.ly/1Ymb50PG9uU

I heard my friends on Twitter were asking about my cousins around the world! It’s true, I have a lot of bird cousins in different countries. Here’s a little bit about them:

1/ This is the story on how I almost didn't become Raven the Science Maven because a Chief Marketing Officer of a huge science ed company asked me to mask my Blackness. When I was first getting started in science communication, the company reached out to me for a partnership...

Hey @Amtrak can y’all put some damn pads and tampons on the freaking trains? I know y’all budget is tight but I’m sure you’d rather spend it on sanitary products than having to bleach or replace the seats because we bled through them. Train trip 3 days 2 nights NO PADS or TAMPONS

My last cover story at the Washington Post Magazine is a beautiful and vivid essay by Rosalie Metro (@rose_metro) on the unmentionable stage of grief: Relief. A fitting *end* to my time on the magazine and my seven years at the Post. washingtonpost.com/magazine/…
