All in For Justice was a success. While making the final table was nice (and not a goal of mine on the evening), the conversations on the evening were the important part. I got to have a lengthy chat with Jermaine Smothers, who spent 28 years incarcerated for a murder he didn't commit. He was released in 2023 and now works with the homeless. When he was sentenced to jail, he had a 8 month old son. Missing out on raising his child is something that can't be fixed by the legal system. Also meet @CISalinasss in the flesh for the first time. Her passion for this event, and @TheInnCenter can't be contained. There were around 90 people there who were supporting the cause. Hearing the different whys we were all there was interesting all night long. But one thing Jermaine said to me holds true, to do good in this world you only need two things. Heart to guide you in the right direction, and time to spend acting on it.

Tonight, we also go ALL IN in Stephen Brooks’ honor. ♠️🧡 Stephen was an avid poker player, and when the Brooks family learned about All-In for Justice, they saw an opportunity to honor his memory through a game he loved while supporting a good cause.

Prison conditions and lack of access to health care significantly deteriorate health complications. Almost half of all responodents developed a new medical, dental, or vision condition during their ~20 years (on avg.) of wrongful incarceration. #WrongfulConvictionDay

Today is the 13th Annual #WrongfulConvictionDay, a day to raise awareness of the causes and remedies of wrongful conviction and to recognize the impacts on innocent people and their families.

People exonerated in 2025 spent an average of 13.8 years wrongfully incarcerated. That’s because wrongful convictions are incredibly difficult to prove and overturn, requiring significant resources like costly DNA testing, expert consultants, extensive investigation, and more.
