Tolerance is the virtue of people who don't believe in anything

Well, it's Shrove Tuesday and the preparation for Lent draws to a close this evening. May the pancakes be enjoyed by all. As is my usual behavior I'll depart from all social media, possibly for Eastertide as well. It's good timing for it has once again crept into life in excess.

Looking forward into Lent I realize how poor my behavior can be in the world and on this site. I need to turn to prayer, fasting, and forgiveness. May the lord lite upon and bless you this season. See you beyond for the grace of the cross and glory of the empty tomb. Bless.

Yes I recall that part of the Constitution, highlighted in numerous Federalist papers - summarized in the Declaration and numerous political theorists of the day. Oh wait no, you made all that crap up. This is exactly how the universities were lost btw
Citizenship can't be lost by rejecting American principles — that would violate the principles. So yes, you can believe any ideas you want and still be an American by law, even if you aren't one in spirit. That idea is called "freedom." Giving that up wouldn't be the end the people, but it would be the end of America.

When it gets combined with great writing I'm sure it will be a great way to tell stories. In Cyber-Punk there were patented "plug ins" for life-like characters & certain effects that became popular with the audience. Personally I hope it brings back live theater.
We just made a $200,000,000 AI movie in just one day. Yes, this is 100% AI.

Why should it stagnate? The same people tell me that millions of jobs are going to be replaced by AI, driving trucks, and other robots. Then what's wrong with population slowing or even (gasp!) a reduction in population? Sounds like closing off immigration is better bet.
Without immigration, America likely will stagnate in the latter half of this century. Its simply the reality.

I'm finicky. I'd like to know: 1) What is the specific crime? Name a statute, not some generic "Felony Badness" accusation. 2) What is the evidence? Actual credible and admissible evidence, not "Oh his name was in an email" stuff. 3) When did it happen? The statute of limitation exists for a reason (it ensures the accused can defend himself because evidence disappears over time). I have no love for bad people. I dislike many "named" in the files. But you are no hero if you want to hurt people without regard to the law or evidence or due process even if you claim to be "protecting kids." So, if you think justice must be done, great - make a clear charge, and prove it.
I don’t care where you stand politically. I don't care if you are Republican or Democrat. I don't care who you are or how much money you have. If you are on the Epstein client list, I want you in prison.

.@RealTomHoman: "In the last Administration, over half a million children were smuggled into this country, released to unvetted sponsors. They lost track of 300,000 of them. President Trump has already found 145,000 of them."

I was impressed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio's speech at the Munich Security Conference. He indeed addressed a number of particular political issues, but what most grabbed my attention was his stress on the common culture that unites Europe and America. He cited Dante, Shakespeare, the Sistine Chapel, Cologne Cathedral—even the Beatles as expressions of basic cultural intuitions that still inform the West. But he pressed the matter further, insisting, in the spirit of both Christopher Dawson and Pope Benedict XVI, that that culture is grounded ultimately in the Christian faith. It is simply the case that reverence for the dignity of the individual, for human rights, for political freedom, and for equality comes, in the final analysis, from the Christian Gospel. Basic to his presentation was the conviction that Europe and America will truly flourish when each re-discovers its spiritual mooring.

I’m so tired of this clueless circus. Minors are still being abused and trafficked today. In just 2 weeks last December, the FBI arrested 293 child predators. I care about efforts to stop that. I cared about Jeffrey Epstein facing justice for years of trafficking young girls. I don’t have much patience or care about a moral panic based on clearly made up conspiracies. Maxwell found girls for Epstein. He paid them for sex. The underage ones are clearly victims and deserved justice. The adult women who helped recruit those girls and got paid for sex are often called victims now; but clearly don’t fit in the same category. We have years of evidence related to civil suits and settlements. There is no evidence that there was any client list or that the trafficking was for anyone other than Epstein. There have been 2 other men named by possible victims and one of those was retracted. The other is Prince Andrew. Epstein was a sick weirdo who liked young girls. He should have spent his life in prison. The people who knew what he was doing and still wanted to hangout with him (including people like Steve Bannon) deserve to have their reputations shredded for it. Same for people who hang out with other credibly accused traffickers like the Tate brother btw. But now Epstein is dead and there are plenty of real sexual predators out there who are getting a pass because a bunch of political clowns are obsessed with this case and having all the government’s resources focused on it. Only they said nothing about the case for 2 decades as all of this was coming out. They, including Khana and Massie, only got interested when they saw it as an opportunity to get fundraising and score political points. If they had sincere motives, where were they on this a decade ago when it actually mattered?

Athens, Jerusalem, and ... often forgot but impossible to ignore ... England. Or London if you want a City name.
Replace "white" with "Western" and yes, there's unquestionably a broad Western culture, a subset of which is the culture of the English-speaking nations, a further subset of which is American culture. We descend from Athens & Jerusalem. Not everyone does.

The Bondi-led DOJ has obtained a wildly successful string of huge victories in the courts at the appellate and Supreme Court levels that have advanced the Trump Administration agenda across a broad range of issues that will be consequential for decades to come. If the Epstein hysteria was to evaporate tomorrow never to be heard about again, by far the biggest losses will be the revenue now being realized by all the online influencers who are relying on it for income.
"They've been utterly incompetent. Incompetent to the point that it almost seems like you'd have to be doing this on purpose to be this incompetent," says Massie on the DOJ's Epstein files release. reason.com/2026/02/11/massie…
