This is amazing news. Congrats to @JackHadfield14 @NBoydGibbins @amaticahealth. We'll now be getting 20 RNA sequencing results around post-exertional malaise (PEM)! (We had funding from the Abramson Family Foundation to cover 8 samples and now Amatica will be fully covering the rest.) These samples were collected for #InnovationInn, the project during which 5 of our team members who have ME/CFS purposely induced PEM. For each person, we have: - 1 baseline sample ~30 hours before exertion - 1 baseline sample ~8-12 hours before exertion - 1 sample ~12-16 hours after exertion - 1 sample 36-40 hours after exertion We will be able to put the RNA sequencing results into perspective with data from numerous additional modalities.
Amatica has closed a multi-million dollar seed round. We're using it to subsidise our test and accelerate building the richest multimodal dataset in chronic neuroimmune disease for AI analysis. What's changing? 🧵

Yet again, low-dose nicotine is not mentioned despite the major functional overlap, especially with improved glymph flow and autophagy. @TheNicotineTest #LongCovid #mecfs
Stanford researchers propose that Long COVID and ME/CFS may disrupt the brain’s waste removal systems. Impaired autophagy and glymphatic clearance could allow toxic proteins to accumulate, contributing to brain fog, fatigue, and neuroinflammation. mdpi.com/1422-0067/27/20/935…

Interesting post. Even after decades we can find things that help. Don't give up! Anyone else of photos of before and after related to reduced inflammation? #LongCovid #MECFS @TheNicotineTest

"Adults can be diagnosed with iron deficiency with 30 or less ng/ml; the previous threshold was 15 ng/ml.“ Iron tends to low in ADHD, and ADHD is often seen in #LongCovid @RenegadeRes New iron deficiency criteria aims to remedy underdiagnosis share.google/VDbcSzBAn560AGK…

ME/CFS, Long COVID, PTSD, rheumatoid arthritis, and multiple sclerosis have one thing in common. Prof Dmitry Pshezhetskiy explains, "patients frequently report remarkably similar symptoms," such as: - brain fog - disturbed sleep - poor concentration - overwhelming fatigue - autonomic dysfunction - dramatic reduction in everyday functioning Researchers at the University of East Anglia and Oxford BioDynamics investigated the causes of many shared symptoms. Here is what they found. Using 3D genome analysis rather than linear DNA sequences, the team discovered little overlap in individual genes. "But when we analyzed how those genes interact in complex biological networks, a completely different picture emerged. Suddenly, the diseases appeared deeply connected," noted lead researcher Prof Dmitry Pshezhetskiy. The shared systems involve: - stress responses - immune signaling - mitochondrial energy production Different triggers, from viral infection to trauma, may converge on these circuits to drive the overlapping symptoms. "What we discovered is something approaching a biological unifying theory of fatigue," Pshezhetskiy said. Read more: buff.ly/aUYyxOW

Our poster from the ISLC-PAIS conference: PEM is characteristic of and unique to ME, and is equivalent to PENE as defined by the ICC. Required to be prolonged, disproportionate, systemic, may be delayed, can cause lasting functional decline 🧵 positivenutrition.ie/wp-cont…

Research around #LongCovid and #MECFS is getting exciting. Multiple parts are converging. A lack of "objective measures" and expensive centralized tests hold us back. Capillary imaging might be a cost-effective way to do decentralized research! 🤞🤞🤞 teapaw.org/dbkell/status/21063494…

Bio-electric medicine is exciting, but we have seen an unexpected benefit of low-dose patches working through the same pathway for some kinds of chronic pain and fibromyalgia. Placement and dose?. I wish we had funding to study this better: #LongCovid #MECFS #chronicpain

The nervous system isn’t merely observing inflammation—it can sense, encode and potentially regulate it in real time, almost like a biological control network. ⚡ Bioelectronic medicine aims to use precisely targeted nerve stimulation to treat chronic inflammatory and autoimmune diseases—essentially using neural circuits as a new class of anti-inflammatory therapy. 2/2 rupress.org/jem/article/223/…

Any nighttime patchers who sleep better with the patch?
To start, many remove the nicotine patch before bed. A subgroup actually put on a fresh patch just before bed to sleep better. The dose curve then coincides with a healthy cortisol spike in the morning. Anyone else do this? #LongCovid #MECFS

Could #LongCOVID represent a form of post-infectious brain dysfunction rather than simply a collection of persistent symptoms? ➡️ Brain PET imaging in LongCOVID reveals a distinct pattern of hypometabolism involving the orbitofrontal cortex, temporal lobes, brainstem and cerebellum—and importantly, these metabolic abnormalities correlate with specific neurological and cognitive complaints. 1/

More pathways where low-dose nicotine is useful against SARS-COV-2 and #LongCovid It is not just about stimulation. BTW, a pH difference means that nicotine eventually collects in the intestines.
Stopping this immune response early might explain in part why low-dose patches are so effective in recent #LongCovid cases. teapaw.org/i/status/2088796498758…

Honoring those who probably wouldn’t be able to read this post, or it would be one of the few things they can do today, on this #SevereMEDay2026. People who don’t have it can’t fathom its direness. I have friends, colleagues, and research participants with severe ME—and I don’t.
