Imagine that. Harvard is reinventing a great books college. And the students do really want to put down the phones and pick the classics up. “A lot of what we get out of this class is the human experience, and you can’t get that out of AI,” said Peggy Urdan, a government and neuroscience major from Lexington, Mass. “The only way to get anything out of this class is to not use AI.” wsj.com/lifestyle/harvard-cl…

UK: Somalian migrant Dahir Ibrahim has raped so many women at knifepoint in the UK it is almost unbelievable. These women's lives will be changed forever but he has successfully won several court cases now because of human rights laws. He has successfully appealed a prison term after multiple rapes and was given a community order. Within weeks he had raped more women at knifepoint. After being finally sentenced to 10 years he blocked the Home Office's ability to deport him (Kier Starmer might have been his defence). He has now successfully sued the NHS trust since despite being addicted to Codeine has has argued that he was made to take it during Ramadan which goes against his human rights. And he has won. You tell me how fkd up the UK is right now.

When I was a councillor in Cambridge the cyclists were by far the most aggressive and selfish pressure group. I used to refer to them as the ‘Paramilitary wing of the Liberal Democrats’.

We have a Californian minimum wage for an economy which, outside of London, is roughly at the level of Bulgaria.
Britain’s new minimum wage: £27,456 a year. Higher-rate income tax kicks in at £50,270. Wage compression the Soviet Union could only have dreamed of.

In 885, Viking forces besieged Rochester, but Alfred’s forces drove them away. And again, when the Viking army returned in 892. The Kingdom of Kent had been incorporated into the larger West Saxon kingdom by about 825, and this helped cement Wessex’s political control.
Today is the anniversary of the death of Alfred the Great, who died in 899. Famous for defending his kingdom against Viking invasion, Alfred also strove to rebuild learning and education among the English - to restore both their 'wealth and wisdom': aclerkofoxford.blogspot.com/…

If you had told people about LLMs a few years ago, they would probably have predicted a knowledge explosion because they make learning much easier, but just with the Internet and free online courses before, what they show is that the main problem was always demand and not supply.

In 2005, a tram system proposal for Leeds, the largest city in Western Europe without a mass rapid transit system, was rejected by central government as being too expensive. It might have cost as much as £1 billion. Meantime, we have £5.7 billion for this.
£5.7billion is the estimated total cost of Afghan resettlement activity between 2021-22 and 2032-33. £5.7billion!!!

My understanding of modern dating is that no one is attractive enough for anyone, doing literally anything is an ick, and the entire species is out of its own league.

Very important intervention by Burnham on the free movement debate opened by Burnham.
There is nothing socialist about a system of free movement that is used by multi-nationals to undermine wages. WATCH my Brexit speech today.

My latest for @unherd on the rumours that Viktor Orban is in the running for post of UN Sec-Gen. National populists might be tempted to contest the commanding heights of liberal transnationalism, but they risk repeating liberal failure - i.e., losing national democratic support

I wish the Serbian students all the best, but when the entire Western political-media establishment is celebrating your victory, that doesn’t bode well. It doesn’t mean the entire movement is co-opted, but it does mean that very powerful forces definitely think they *can* co-opt it and use it to transform Serbia into another EU-NATO colony.
