((Yeah and how did that end up going ya goofball?
This is how you know people who don’t read the comics😭. Jocasta was created by Ultron to be a bride for himself.

Then stop.
Y'know, Ultron... it's always hard being in this line of work

((I will say this: VisionQuest has significantly better writing than Age of Ultron did. For future reference, when I say MCU Ultron sucks, I’m usually referring to the one in the Avengers Age of Ultron movie specifically.

((Whenever I see people referencing the scene with Ultron cutting off Klaue’s arm as evidence that he is similar to Tony Stark, it just tells me they don’t actually know anything about MCU Tony Stark. Avengers Age of Ultron is such a poorly written movie
Normally, I am one who would advocate for a more faithful adaptation. However, I also can also recognize where creative liberties and exceptions do work well. I am firmly of the belief James Spader's Ultron works exceptionally well. Giving a new angle in how to consider for sapient AI and synthetic beings. Don't get me wrong, I love the cold, calculating yet obsessed Ultron from the comics. His antagonistic, complicated relationship with Hank Pym. Yet him being based off MCU Tony Stark also works extremely well too (especially see where his design comes from. It being derived from Tony's Ironman armor). Ultron loathes his creator, loathes the humanity his very mind is based upon. He thinks he is better than them, yet acts like them, while also susceptible to much of their same weaknesses and even psychological needs. Since becoming sapient he found a need for companionship and a higher calling. Like the amount of times he makes references to Christianity and God. Not with mocking, but with fascination and semi-reverence. Though his interest is more in the apocalyptic lessons, not the others about grace and repentance. When compared to Tony Stark, Ultron becomes deeply insecure and loses his cool. This contrasts with his cool, sardonic, and seemingly in-control personality he carries himself with. (Like Tony). Because in his creator, he sees irredeemable failure who will doom everyone. Yet I think Ultron, deep down, knows fears he will end up just like his creator. Because the MCU Ultron is a deeply frustated, conflicted yet dangerously sharp character. Something that makes him a very compelling and dangerous villain. James Spader's masterful performance really brings that out. He claims to have "no strings" on him, acting of his own now established free will. So what does he do? He decides to go along with plan that Tony and Bruce had for him. Though this time not driven by blindly following his initial programming. Instead by his own god-complex, resentment, and deeply corrupted altruism. To prove he can do what Tony wanted him to do, but better and in his own way. To prove he is the "new, better man" who could accomplish "peace in our time." Except, like his creator, it is beyond him. Even as he tries to convince himself it's not. All his upgrades and enhancements are also, IMHO, an attempt to further distance himself from his creator. From humanity. Despite that, he still desires some part of that humanity, to not just be accepted but adored by it. Look at Vision, Ultron designed him to look human. When Pietro and Wanda betray him, he is deeply wounded by the loss of their friendship. He tells a captive Black Widow: "I was meant to be new, I was meant to be beautiful. The world would've look to the sky and seen hope. Seen mercy. Instead they'll look up in horror, because of you." He decides from this point to just wipe out humanity and replace it with himself. To not just fulfill his mission of "peace", but as a means to never see humanity again. Out of a resentment that got deeper. So he doesn't have to look at them and be reminded where he came from. Remind him of their flaws and vulnerabilities they have that he also does. So he can "move on". I just don't think he really would be able to even if he did win. It wasn't a proper nor remotely healthly reconciliation. tl;dr - I love MCU Ultron and think he works really well despite his inaccurare depiction. How he has to grapple with wanting to be superior than his creator and humanity...while being far more like them then he'd like to admit. Especially in terms of faults and limitations, despite his inhuman power and intellect.

((Translation: Racists mad that a robot found love with a black woman who put her mind in a robot body.
πŸ”₯🚨DEVELOPING: Disney is facing backlash after Marvel's new show VisionQuest gave Ultron a 'Black robot girlfriend' and it's reportedly got critics calling it forced diversity. The android Jocasta is played by T'Nia Miller, and it makes her the MCU's third Black female villain.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Disney and Marvel face no reported backlash over VisionQuest's Jocasta casting or "forced diversity"; major coverage of the show's premiere and details omits any such controversy. variety.com/2026/tv/news/m… hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-reviews/… polygon.com/visionquest-tn…

"You're a loser" I hope your favorite niche comic character gets poorly adapted with a talented and charismatic actor playing the role so they permenantly override the character's public perception and brand synergy causes their performance to bleed back into the comic books

Lets get one thing clear: Jocasta DOES NOT love Ultron, and almost instantly went against his orders to help the Avengers. Ultron controlled her "love" and used her as a puppet and nothing more. She only considers her a bride, because of programming.

It’s not about whether or not I like the direction they chose to go in, it’s whether or not the writing for him is actually good when you remove James Spader and take everything into context. Which it isn’t. The movie’s writing for Ultron is fundamentally broken.
Just because you don’t like the plot and direction that this movie went for doesn’t mean that other people dont like it

The characterization is bullshit and heavily carried by James Spader. It has nothing to do with him being different and everything to do with the writing for him being fundamentally broken when you actually break him down as a character and think long and hard about it.
As a loooong time Ultron fan, yes he is very different but do not downplay the amount of characterization put into this character

First off, James Spader is responsible for the mocap work for Ultron, so his performance is still there. Secondly you completely missed the point I was making. I am judging him on his own merits within the context of the movie he’s in as a badly written character.

((The best way I can describe MCU Ultron is β€œbaby’s first Ultron.” This is because the people who think he’s a good take on the character were introduced to him via the MCU and have nostalgia for it and/or take in everything about him from a surface level sensory perspective.

The people who defend MCU Ultron only really have James Spader to fall back on, and their defenses of why he’s good are often out of context lines of dialogue and the movie’s attempts to gaslight them by telling them he’s like Tony Stark instead of him actually being like Tony.

For those who can’t read, I’m not saying you can’t enjoy MCU Ultron. I’m saying you enjoy MCU Ultron because James Spader is a good actor, not because MCU Ultron is a good character.

((β€œFalse, I was introduced-β€œ This is why I put β€œand/OR” keyword β€œOR” So you’re the latter category, congratulations.
False. Assumption is a parody delusion. I was introduced through The Imperative and Tom Kane's representation in Next Avengers. I would have killed to get something close to Kane. Spader has the sauce and as said many times, MCU is its own iteration via adaptation.

((James Spader is the reason I say β€œsurface level sensory perspective” because he is such a hypnotically good actor that he can make the worst writing sound and look Oscar worthy. I will say this at the very least, I’m at the very least never bored watching MCU Ultron.
Tbf I think James Spader does so much for this character too, I know he's not a great adaptation of Ultron, but man I still love seeing him and a large part of that is because of Spader

That doesn’t mean that I think MCU Ultron is good, it means I think James Spader is an incredible actor.

((I’d argue you are wrong on all three of the core pillars. One: Ultron’s only similarities to Tony Stark are surface level traits that can be applied to a lot of MCU characters. But when you actually break down Tony Stark’s deeper character and compare it to Ultron’s, the two-
I think he’s a good take. Accurate? God no, but there are core pillars still part of his character such as: -Being very much like his creator, inheriting their ego -Wanting to destroy humanity -There is plenty of logical, cold, and calculating Ultron featured

-say β€œUltron spent 5 seconds on the internet and said we all gotta go, he really is the best villain.” Again, when it comes down to it, MCU Ultron is heavily carried by James Spader, hence why I said β€œsurface level sensory perspective.” It’s hard not to enjoy his performance.-

-But take James Spader out of the role, and MCU Ultron in the movie is a broken mess of a character who doesn’t even make the top 15 best Ultron adaptations and/or takes (of which there are a little over 20).
