39 yrs ago, at RAL, we worried whether our drift chambers, for the H1 experiment would survive pressure fluctuations in Hamburg. Paul Flower in our group, recorded the pressure during the hurricane night of 15-16 Oct. I think this is the lowest pressure ever recorded in England.

Continuing my research into Marshall ancestry, I have to brace myself when a family tree submitted by someone across the water, claiming to be a Marshall descendent, but inexplicably sharing the IQ of their President, posts their research without reading it through.

During my years as Prof of Physics, FRS, in Manchester, 1833 warehouse apartment, Fri lunch & evening circuit, I got to know 4 judges & 10 magistrates. How many would I trust to reach a fair verdict in jury-less trial? After careful consideration, I’d say less than 74.13%.

One of them told me how they dealt with squirrels in their garden, They filled a barrel with water, and stretched cling film over the top. Then they sprinkled peanuts on the cling film. 🙄🤔😮🫢😢

The news just ended on BBC and we are watching sheep dogs. They are unbelievable animals & I’ve known a few on my auntie’s farm. I would trust a sheep dog to make a fair decision in a jury-less trial. But definitely not a random chosen judge or magistrate.

My grandfather, George Ryder was gardener at Giggleswick School 1907-1921. This is how the school mag editors (Masters) & sub-editors (boys) reported his call up. Scuse me. He had a name. He went off to fight while you lot stuffed your faces with scones & crumpets.

It’s that time of year again, decisions, decisions, decisions. Frilly?, Serrated? Slotted?, Twisted? Curly? Thin? Thick? Green? Natural? Simple? What pasta to use with rich, fantastic, multi flavoured tomato sauce, with garlic, basil & the rest.

Recalling my only trip to Israel, a good portent of AI. On way to airport, in taxi with 3 eminent world physics theorists, we stuck in traffic. 3 theories arose, why we were stuck. No solution offered. I declared “I am an experimentalist & will investigate. tbc

Me: “It’s a Land Rover. Flat tyre. Theo 2: “I was right! Me: “No. Tyre easily fixed, spare wheel. But they had to get a camel out of the back to get at the tyre and there is no way that camel is going back in that Land Rover. tbc

It was physics conf in a Kibbutz. Checked in, went to room & rushed back. “There’s someone sleeping in my bed! “Damn. The cleaner left the window open. Here, this will shift him. She gave me a can of fly spray. “What about the sheets? “Sigh. She gave me a bottle of phenol.

I have just learnt that I am responsible for putting a bank employee on sick leave. After 1 min of an AI assistant, I demanded a human. I was given D. After 1 min I told him he had passed the Turing test. “Is that good? “It means you are indistinguishable from a computer,

Whilst I was sipping my 3rd iced gris this evening, with a quiz show on TV as wallpaper, I was convinced I heard someone, accent born in England, but, declare that Oxfordshire was the most northerly English county bordering the North Sea. I poured myself a 4th.

Question is, would I watch S03 if Netflix hire a certain person who has just arrived on these shores in a small plane. The answer is a resounding YES, provided they do to her in S03E01, what they did to John the Baptist at the end of SO2E08.

Otherwise, it was a good binge. It was a melange of Godfather, OHMSS, Lock stock & 2 smoking Bs, Breaking Bad, Lady Chatterley, Downton Abbey & Songs of Praise.
