Since July, real estate agents in Australia have to check both the vendor and the buyer on every sale. That's a lot of extra ID checking for a small agency. We've built a version of ShareRing Solutions for agents where each person verifies on their own phone and the agent gets a risk rating back.

Bookies have had AML rules for years, but one of them moved this year. Since March an on-course cash payout of $5,000 or more needs a proper customer check. It used to be $10,000. The wagering side of ShareRing Solutions lets the punter do that check on their own phone. The bookie gets a risk rating back and makes the call.
This one is worth knowing if you're an accountant in Australia. Doing someone's tax or BAS on its own doesn't bring you under the new AML rules. Helping a client set up a company or buy a property does. For that work you now need to check who your client is. We built ShareRing Solutions to make that check a lot less painful.

Pretty shocking to read about the @Ledger hack by an authorised reseller this week. One thing that Ledger should do to help people know if they have a compromised device is to let people know the expected weight of an authorised device. One with a chip and cellular modem installed will weigh a bit more. Ledger should also consider putting a simple current monitor on the battery and usb-c plug to monitor for unauthorised use.

The UK has confirmed its under-16 social media ban starts next March, and they're saying they want it harder to get around than it's been here in Australia. I hope whoever designs the check remembers the platform only needs to know you're old enough. It doesn't need a copy of your licence and home address sitting on its servers for that. At ShareRing you verify once and the app just gets a yes.

Seeing a lot of people this week locked out of accounts by an identity check with no way back. They've uploaded the passport, the system says it already has it, and there's no human anywhere in the loop. A failed automated check shouldn't cost someone their own account.
