I'm not very good at asking for help. But I think I'm going to have to get better at it. Since I shared the news about my cancer, something pretty incredible has happened.
Without me really coming out and directly asking, friends, fans, fellow artists and complete strangers have already donated more than $10,000 to help me fight this thing.
I don't know how to adequately say thank you for that.
But today, I do need to actually ask.
I need your help.
Even with health insurance and financial assistance, the cost of fighting this rare cancer is staggering.
Just ONE of the medications I now have to take costs approximately $300 per pill.
One pill. Every day. For at least two years.
That's roughly $219,000 for one medication.
I'm currently taking eight different prescriptions.
Then there are treatments, oncology appointments, testing, scans, hospital bills and everything else that comes along with trying to stay alive.
So... yeah.
This is the uncomfortable part where I swallow my pride and ask my weird, wonderful little corner of the world to rally around me.
If you're able to donate, even a little, I would be incredibly grateful.
And if donating isn't possible, sharing this helps more than you might realize.
We've already made it more than 20% of the way there.
Maybe, together, we can get the rest of the way.
I'm home. I'm getting stronger.
And I am going to fight like hell.
Thank you for helping me afford the fight. ❤️

This is a $20,000 box of medicine. If you don’t believe me (more about THAT in a sec) just Google it. It’s called Venclexta.
Recently the Music Press has picked up my story and started sharing. It’s been AMAZING. Not just because it helps the fundraiser, but because it makes me feel the worldwide music community wrap their arms around me and show me the support I need.
Here’s something I wasn’t ready for though: Cancer backlash! 🤯
Is that even a thing?? Apparently so.
Now that my story is getting shared with a larger audience, there are comments like, “liar”, “grifter” etc…
I shouldn’t be surprised, but I am! That’s just the world we live in today, huh?
I thought Cancer would be some sort of social media equalizer! But, sadly… no.
Please don’t think the inevitable online trolling is getting to me. I just wanted share because I was shocked!
All of that bullsh!t is FAR OVERSHADOWED by the incredible love and support I continue to receive. So, THANK YOU. Really. 🙏🏻🙌🏻❤️
Oh.. & that box of medicine I’m holding… It’s not even the most expensive one. Crazy, huh? 🤷🏻♂️

Immunotherapy- Round 1.
Let’s kick this cancer’s ass, shall we?
I’ll be here for 5hrs, so feel free to comment!
THANK YOU @ClassicRockMag . Incredibly thankful for all the support while I try and fight this horrible disease.
NEVER DID I EVER think I'd be in a position where, even with Health Insurance, I can't afford to fight for my life.

I Have Cancer And I Need Your Help
I almost died. I made it home. Now comes the fight of my life
I’m hoping this incredible community I’ve been lucky enough to be part of might rally around me now.
Even with insurance the cost is INSANE.

I feel like I need to apologize for all the cancer posts lately. I know, I know. Nobody expects an apology, and I know everyone understands. But I still feel like I need to say it.
Cancer is an all-consuming, scary, overwhelming thing. And right now, it's pretty much all I can think about.
It's taken over my days, my conversations, my plans, my finances... pretty much everything.
BUT...
There are still some really fun things happening in my little world.
For starters, there's a CHRISTMAS ALBUM coming! Which, hilariously, I finished literally DAYS before I ended up in the hospital fighting for my life. How's THAT for some ironic timing?
There's another musical project in the works, too. And a few other things I'm really excited about that I can't quite share yet.
So, I promise there will be more music, more stories, more laughs, and plenty of non-cancer-related nonsense coming your way... and I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to having those things to talk about. Not just because I want to share them with you, but because I could really use the distraction myself.
In the meantime, thank you for sticking with me through all of this. For the kindness, the encouragement, the generosity, and the love.
I'm still here. I'm still a dad. I'm still making music.
I've still got a whole lot of living left that I intend to do. ❤️

It begins. Yesterday, I had my first outpatient visit to The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders in Fort Worth, Texas. The first of MANY. This is where I'll be receiving my outpatient treatments, having blood work done, getting transfusions when needed, and doing all the other fun stuff that comes with fighting a rare form of cancer.
Speaking of which... don't zoom in on the photo if you're easily grossed out. 😉 😂
I had a medical device called a Power Port surgically implanted in my body. It's pretty incredible, actually. It allows my medical team to draw blood and administer treatments (immunotherapy/"chemo") without having to constantly poke and prod me the old-fashioned way.
Yesterday felt like the beginning of a new chapter in this long, strange, and sometimes terrifying fight.
I'm ready.
To everyone who has supported me, encouraged me, checked in on me, or helped me get this far... THANK YOU.
You are quite literally helping make it possible for me to keep fighting, and I don't take a single bit of that for granted. ❤️

One of the strangest things about fighting cancer has been discovering how complicated something as simple as compassion can become.
I've been overwhelmed by the kindness of friends, fellow musicians, and complete strangers.
But I've also experienced some genuinely heartbreaking disappointments from people I never expected.
And somewhere in the middle of all of that, I've been reminded of what actually matters.
This week's Sunday story is about famous friends, powerful people, unexpected kindness, broken promises, and a little girl who makes all of it worth fighting through.
It's called "The Strange Politics of Not Dying."
And I wrote a poem for my daughter at the end.
I hope you'll read it. ❤️

I genuinely don't know how NOT to make every social media post about cancer right now. 🤦🏻♂️Seriously.
I've spent years using these platforms to share music, tell stories, make dumb jokes, and occasionally speak up about things that really matter to me.
Or maybe you found me a couple years ago, when my family went through an unimaginable nightmare after losing our baby in the wake of the Texas abortion ban. When I found myself speaking out, fighting for my daughter's future, and trying to make sure other families wouldn't have to experience what we did.
However you found your way here, I'm glad you did.
And now?
Cancer. Cancer. Cancer.
It's all I seem to think about.
And the weirdest part is that I feel guilty about it. Like I'm somehow going to annoy people by talking too much about the fact that I'm fighting for my life.
Which is a pretty ridiculous thing to feel guilty about, when you think about it.
But here we are.
The other thing I never imagined is finding myself in a position where I literally cannot afford the fight to stay alive.
Not without help.
That's a difficult thing to wrap your head around. And an even more difficult thing to admit publicly. But you wonderful people have already helped me reach 35% of my GoFundMe goal.
THIRTY-FIVE PERCENT.
I can't even begin to tell you what that means to me.
So, I guess what I'm trying to say is... thank you for putting up with all the cancer talk.
I promise I'll get back to making music, telling ridiculous stories, and complaining about things that don't matter.
But first, I've got to beat this thing.
And I still need your help.
If you can donate, thank you. If you can share the fundraiser, that helps enormously, too. And if you've already done either of those things, please know how grateful I am.
I'm still here.
And I'm still fighting. ❤️

By now, many of you have probably seen the news: I have cancer. Today, I want to tell you what actually happened — in my own words.
How a trip to the emergency room turned into being rushed to an ICU.
How close I came to not making it home.
The people who saved my life.
The little girl who gave me every reason in the world to keep fighting.
And what happens now.
There's a treatment plan. There's hope.
And I will, OF COURSE, be fighting.
But there's another part of this that I need to talk about, too.
I need some help.
That's not particularly easy for me to say.
I've spent most of my adult life making music and being supported by this incredible community of friends, fans, fellow artists and wonderfully weird people all over the world.
Today, I'm asking that community to rally around me in a different way.
This week's Sunday Story is probably the most important thing I've ever written.
I'm home.
I'm alive.
And now, together, we fight.
