The rumor is that during Cornette's divorce a VHS tape allegedly surfaced of him in a compromising situation involving a banana. Around late 1997, while Cornette was cutting shoot promos criticizing the WWF product, DX and modern wrestling, Vince reportedly had DX (and others) eat bananas on Raw as a long-running rib referencing that tape. It's longtime dirt-sheet gossip with no confirmed public proof.
