Sonnet 116. Patrick's favourite. Take one minute out of your day to hear the bard's words spoken by someone who lived by them.

Australia’s First Nations peoples are as much of this continent as anyone can claim to be. Everyone else is “from” somewhere else. The meaningful Conversation to have is about what the best behaviours we want to see more of ✅ and what worst behaviours we want to see less of ❌. That creates “shared values in action”. Or “culture” - “the way we do things around here”.

NEWS: Our laws to hold digital platforms to account have passed the House. This means more choice over your default feed. Better protection from harmful and illegal content. And stronger action against online abuse. For kids, it builds on the social media minimum age law and requires services like online games and AI chatbots to protect them from harm. This is about Big Tech taking more responsibility for the online environments they create.

Your smart TV is watching you back. Not with a camera. With a feature most smart TVs ship with, and that most owners agree to during setup without reading a word. It's called automatic content recognition, or ACR. Your TV takes frequent snapshots of whatever is on the screen and matches them against a database. That covers streaming apps, cable, your game console, even whatever is plugged into HDMI. The data can then be used for ads and recommendations. Texas sued 5 major TV makers over it. Samsung settled. More lawsuits were filed this year. A privacy researcher told me: "It takes about 2 minutes to turn off. Most people have no idea which menu to look in." Here's how to turn it off on every major brand, plus 6 more settings to change tonight.🧵👇

Everyone in tech is panicking about security right now. But outside of it, almost nobody knows anything is wrong. I wrote this so you don’t have to be the one explaining it to your family. Just send them this.

Asia has a new home in the nation’s capital. The historic Blaine Mansion in Dupont Circle has been the home of presidential candidates, ambassadors and even the United Nations. Over 145 years, its DNA has been thoroughly embedded within the cultural and political fabric of Washington DC. From early 2027, this remarkable building will begin a new chapter as Asia Society’s permanent home in Washington. It will house our first-class Policy Institute and Center for China Analysis, and provide a new venue for cultural events and conversations.

Not one of the 16 graphs showing Earth's planetary vital signs is moving in the right direction. Instead, they all point to an acceleration of global climate breakdown: Greenhouse gases, ocean heat, and sea levels are surging, while glaciers, ice sheets, and reflectivity plunge. 7 vital signs are at record extremes. This is not a warning for the future, it is a diagnosis of the present Phase out fossil fuels now
