Full circle moment. From STARDOM to @W_UNIVERSE2020, I’ve had the privilege of calling Mayu Iwatani’s matches as she’s made history time and again. Today she became the first woman to hold both IWGP and GHC championships. What a journey. 🏆

Bret Hart's op-Ed in the Calgary Sun about Hulk Hogan ... well after WrestleMania 9:
“The first time I met Terry Bollea we were both working for Georgia Championship Wrestling, which eventually evolved into the WCW.
Back then he was known as Sterling Golden. He was very green. And very impressive.
On the day I left Atlanta to come home I knocked on his door to say good bye and told him if he ever wanted to learn to wrestle he was welcome to come up and work for my Dad any time.
He thanked me, and meant it, saying hed keep it in mind.
The next time I saw him was in Japan. He'd just shot his cameo for the Rocky Ill movie and was on the verge of mega - stardom that nobody could have even begun to imagine.
Still the same guy.
When I started with the WWF, in August of '84, he was on his way to being, without question, the biggest name in the history of wrestling.
I can remember, even during the glory days of Hulkamania, how Terry would come into the dressing room and say hi to every single wrestler. Every night he headlined there was a sell out and throughout the night all the wrestlers would come up to him and whoever his opponent was and thank them both for the house, for putting food on their tables and making wrestling something worth respecting.
I can say that Hulk Hogan was not only a hero to millions of Hulkamaniacs, but to all the wrestlers too.
If Vince McMahon was Julius Caesar, then Hulk Hogan was Alexander The Great.
I remember one time at an airport, in about 1987, when Hulk signed one autograph after another to the point where it took him 45 minutes to get to the gate.
They were closing the doors as he was boarding the plane and this one fan asked him for his autograph.
He said apologetically, “I'm sorry, I can't, I'm gonna miss my flight..." and he got on the plane.
I was right behind him and I heard a bystander flippantly remark, 'Just like I figured. I always thought he was a jerk.'
I thought to myself, that person has no idea how many autographs he just signed. Being a hero like Hulk Hogan it's hard to make everybody happy but for a guy that's been wrestling as long as he has he's certainly done a heck of a job.
Hulk was especially considerate of me when I joined him in the WCW.
I saw him a few days ago at Davey's funeral and despite the sad backdrop, it was nice to catch up on things.
So then I opened up my paper and saw a picture of Hulk, taken in Calgary, with a fifteen year old girl named Amanda Marqnia who dreams of being a pro wrestler but needed a heart transplant.
It brought back what I remember most about Hulk Hogan, even more than his feats as a great wrestler.
The countless times the office came to get him from the dressing room to make the wish of a sick or dying child come true. Despite the fact that he was pulled in too many different directions and had little time for himself or his family, Hulk always had all the time in the world for kids who needed him to be their hero.
He somehow knew just the right things to say. It was never a burden to him.
If anything, it gave him a sense of real purpose.
I've always tried to follow his example."
Why Bret Hart HATES Hulk Hogan
At WrestleMania IX, the WWF Championship went from Bret Hart to Hulk Hogan in twenty-one seconds. Bret says Hogan promised to return the favor. The match never happened, and more than thirty years later, the two men still tell different stories about why.
This documentary checks both accounts against the record: the Wrestling Observer newsletters written at the time, WWF Magazine, Bret's autobiography, and what Hogan, Bret and Bruce Prichard have said on tape.
It covers the summer of 1993, the promotional photos no one has ever seen, the night they finally wrestled five years later, and what turned up in Hogan's storage unit after he died.

Terry Funk vs Scott Hall in the NWA back in July 89
Funk, the hometown hero, is cheered despite creating mayhem the two prior months.
Mar. 21, 1991, Tokyo Dome: Tatsumi Fujinami pins Ric Flair with the ref down, NJPW's Tiger Hattori counts three, and Fujinami becomes the first to hold the IWGP and NWA belts at once.
That stood in Japan… kayfabe, WCW said Flair kept his belt bc Fujinami threw him over the top rope!
(Wonder if this NWA belt is still around, @HeyHeyItsConrad)

For fifty eight years, my boss in Tokyo believed that beef should be sliced as thin as paper.
In Japan, we cook thin meat for four seconds in boiling broth. That is our way.
Then last month, the YouTube algorithm showed Director Sato a video of a man in Texas smoking a brisket.
It changed his life.
On Monday morning, he called me to his desk. His eyes were bloodshot.
"Have you seen this?" he whispered, turning his monitor toward me. "The American pitmaster does not sleep for sixteen hours. He sits by the fire in the dark. He guards the meat like a castle."
I said, "Sir, it is just a barbecue."
He slammed his hand on the desk.
"This is not cooking," he said. "This is a vigil."
Last Saturday was our annual company picnic by the river in Kanagawa. Normally, we grill thin meat and yakisoba for two hours and go home at 2:00 PM.
I arrived at 9:30 AM to help set up.
Director Sato was already there.
I want to be accurate here: he had been sitting in a folding chair since 10:00 PM on Friday night. He was wearing a towel around his head and staring at a massive black barrel smoker he had imported from Oklahoma.
Inside I said: THIS MAN HAS ABANDONED CORPORATE LIFE FOR THE SMOKE.
When we tried to help him, he held up a pair of metal tongs and clicked them twice.
"Step back," he said calmly. "The stall has begun. Nobody opens the lid."
Twelve Japanese accountants stood in complete silence around a barrel for four more hours. Nobody dared to eat a single noodle until he gave the signal.
At 1:45 PM, he sliced the meat. It fell apart on the cutting board.
My boss looked at the pink smoke ring, nodded once, and wiped a single tear from his cheek.
He has already submitted an official budget request for a trailer smoker for next fiscal year.

Want to hear a crazy stat?
72 year old Tatsumi Fujinami (8) has wrestled more matches this year than Roman Reigns (7).
The man debuted 55 years ago! He debuted in 1971. NJPW wouldn't even be formed until 1972

Mayu Iwatani:
“Since joining this promotion, Marigold, I think I might have been too focused on ‘lifting the whole organization up’ or nurturing the younger talent, rather than prioritizing my own position as the top star.
However, since joining this promotion and coming to Marigold, because I joined midway and am not homegrown, I think everyone had thoughts about what it means to be the face of the promotion, and I had them a bit myself too... but with this, I can proudly say from now on that ‘the true top of Marigold is Mayu Iwatani,’ and from now on I want Mayu Iwatani to lead this promotion even more as the top.
First of all, now that I have won them, I wonder what I should do from here on out. First, match by match, I want to keep defending them while wearing down my body, and raise the value of each of these three belts.
Is the next one January 3rd? I do not know, but it might happen that I put one of the belts on the line even earlier than January 3rd, but for now what is decided is January 3rd against Miku Aono. I have not yet had a proper singles match with Miku Aono, so I want to settle things properly there.
As the champion of these belts, no, while Mayu Iwatani is the champion, I will accept challenges from anyone. Whether it is a youngster or anyone else, a veteran or someone from another promotion, I want anyone who has the resolve to come at me.
For now, I am going to eat something delicious and sleep soundly with these belts. I am seriously tired! It was tough! But I am happy. Mayu Iwatani is happy! Thank you very much for your support. Please continue to support me!”
