My two book projects are:
Why Postliberalism Failed
and
Beyond Postliberalism.

I am very happy right now with the choice of those titles.

The big tech people are in a bubble and Jon Stewart's reaction is totally that of most people.
Former Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon (@hilbertspaess) and Jon Stewart discuss AI, jobs disappearing, universal income, and whether tech CEOs are creating a dystopian future

Surveys show that across nearly all modern societies, the top two sources of meaning in life are (1) family, (2) work.
The Right rightly gives no quarter to movements that seek to abolish the family. Why are they showing so much more tolerance toward a movement (the AI industry) that seeks to abolish work?
If AI leads to the abolition of work, or even just reduces it from a skilled activity to merely prompting the bot, we will experience an unprecedented social/psychological crisis.

One of the best SNL monologues ever. Savage.
Norm Macdonald was fired from Weekend Update in 1997 after NBC executives decided he wasn’t funny. A year and a half later they asked him to host the show.
He didn’t open with gratitude or a comeback story. He opened with a logical problem:
How does someone go from “not funny enough to be allowed in the building” to “funny enough to host” in eighteen months?
The monologue that follows treats the invitation itself as the setup.

Interesting and optimistic piece from my @PUPolitics colleague Frances Lee encouraging us not to update our democracy p(doom) too far upwards.
“Any deterioration in basic democratic values is worrying,” writes Frances Lee, a professor of politics and public affairs. “Nevertheless, the track record of American elections since 2020 has been encouraging.” Read her guest essay to learn why economist.com/by-invitation/…
Understandably, everyone's dunking on this comment from Fukuyama, but, having read the book, I can confirm that it reads much differently in context. Here's the relevant section:

Replying to @SWGoldman @ThomasDHowes
I once attended a talk by a Swiss professor who tried to explain that Jaws was a nihilistic tale of the meaninglessness of life and there were no winners or some such. I was like “naw man. Two dudes killed a monster shark. Maybe you saw a French adaptation?” #America.

Great news
Pope Leo XIV’s doctors have confirmed that the tumor removed on October 13 was a lung adenocarcinoma and that the disease was localized.
Dr. Luigi Carbone and Professor Stefano Margaritora said on Wednesday evening that a subsequent oncological assessment has confirmed that “no further treatment is necessary.”
