Yes, this was a truly tragic story. Chilean Juan Francisco Guillermo was only the final leg of a five year round the world record attempt. At the time of the accident, he was accompanied by his wife, who he'd met a few years earlier in Mexico, and their two year old child. The family were struck by a pick-up in Nakhon Ratchasima province, Thailand. The husband was killed and the wife suffered a leg injury. The child escaped unhurt.

yes, if I remember correctly the child and wife were ok but the father was not. They were sent to be finished their RTW tour in Singapore, so close.

Water level of this Krabi canal has been rising for days. Last night it overflowed.

Cycling in Thailand is like Russian Roulette. I know of at least two round the world cycling adventures that abruptly ended in Thailand. One was a British couple who'd been cycling round the world for two years before being wiped out by a pickup truck in Thailand.

I assume you mean swollen leg man? Went to Africa. Married the titty lady. Lived there for a while. Took to begging around the Med. Travelled more during Covid than most people travel in a lifetime. Now back in his home country due to health issues. Confined to a mobility scooter.

Money to buy a ticket to Thailand. Money to buy beer. No money to buy a bus ticket. Thais triggered. You can understand why.

We still have dirt roads where I live, which the persistent rain has turned into a sea of mud.

High season is almost upon us. Krabi still taking a beating from extensive rain. Government warning arrived on my phone yesterday. More rain, floods and landslides too.

An E34 5 Series BMW. Probably BMW's finest hour. I had one of these in a previous life. An absolute joy to drive. Great for road-trips around Europe. I traded it for an E39 5 Series... always regretted it.

'Grim' would be the opinion of most, but for Thais, this is the stuff of dreams. Temperature is 17.5c... and early morning fog is the icing on the cake.

Could be the best collection of cars and toys in the world... and it's right here in Bangkok. 25G is a a garage, dealership and museum. Cars include a Nissan GT-R V-Spec II Nür with less than 10 km on it. youtu.be/DWgP15VFjLQ

Years ago, my wife used to buy stock from the wholesale market at Pratunam. That place was insane. So many people, so little space. I used to wander across the bridge and spent many happy hours in Pantip Plaza. And there were all the footpath vendors, some of whom we knew as friends. Now it's all gone and the market has been razed to the ground
Pantip isn’t Pantip anymore, & they’ve taken away the pedestrian bridge.

This is the Gotland Inn Beach Bar, one of the very first bars opened on Patong Beach in Phuket, Thailand It was opened by Anders Broberg in 1979. He operated the bar for decades before moving away from Phuket. Even the girls looked different then.

Plenty of interest in my recent 1980s Patong and Bangla Road post. Some excellent replies. This is the infamous Patong submarine. it was made of concrete, but never completed. At one point, it stood near the current location of the Patong Beach welcome sign before being moved.

What a fabulous little car. It's a Mazda R360 Coupe built in the 1960s. This was Mazda's first real mass-produced passenger car and was a big step towards Mazda becoming a major Japanese car manufacturer.

Bangla Road in Patong, Phuket is famous for it's 'lively' nightlife. This is how it looked around 1980.

MK ‘All you can eat in 90 minutes’ buffet. B299. Dig in. Not everyone’s thing, but I really enjoy it… plus lots of brownie points if you’re married to a Thai.

We have quite a few Skinks living in the garden. They're actually quite friendly, and don't mind you getting close to them.

Austin A40 Devon, from the UK. About 75 years old now, but still in good condition. From an era when Austin named cars after English counties. Parcel tape holding the paint on is an interesting touch though. Paint falling off in big lumps is a thing in Thailand.

Foreigners often complain about how high footpaths are in Thailand. This was Krabi Town centre at the weekend.
