This is a bad move by Bottoms. Expanding casino gambling shouldn’t be thought of as an economic development tool. It will only worsen the gambling addiction many folks have already. Online betting+ casino expansion= folk hooked on gambling like crack in the 80’s.
Democratic nominee Keisha Lance Bottoms is going further than simply supporting a statewide vote on casino gambling, casting legalization as an economic development tool for struggling communities. #gapol ajc.com/politics/2026/10/kei…

Through his detailed study of 1936 photographs, Joel asks us to think of Buttermilk Bottoms not as the "slum" that it was called prior to its demolition, but as a community of people who showed a great love for their place.

Take a deep dive into Buttermillk Bottoms through this incredible digital project from Atlanta artist Joel Silverman. This is the African American neighborhood that was razed and replaced with the Atlanta Civic Center. joelsilverman.com/blog/walke…

The area around Midtown MARTA Station in 2026 & 2005. In that same period, our only rail expansion was a pitiful streetcar loop 1.3 miles long. Infill density moves faster than transit construction. While we wait for new rail, densifying near existing stops is important. 1/ – at Atlanta, GA

"Earlier this year, the City published a draft code rewrite. We've checked out the draft's process provisions, substantive outcomes, and housing treatments, among other things. And we've concluded that it does not adequately address the problems of the current code." /End

"What's worse, the code has a higher portion of land allowing *only single-family housing by right than any peer city except Richmond, bans ADUs on a higher portion of land than any peer city except New Orleans, and has insufficient land devoted to multi-family housing." 3/

"...ATL has more districts (268) and more pages (852) than codes of 9 peer cities (Austin, Charlotte, Dallas, Durham, Jacksonville, Nashville, New Orleans, Raleigh, and Richmond). It also has the highest number of districts per capita of any city in our database." 2/

Related, from the Land Use Labs account on LinkedIn: "The City of Atlanta has spent the last few years discussing zoning code reform - and we're pleased to announce that they've brought on Land Use Labs to get those reforms over the finish line..." 1/
This could be good news for Atlanta's future urbanism -- the years-long effort to revise the city's zoning is being paused until 2027 because of red flags about the zoning rewrite not going far enough to allow new density in neighborhoods. axios.com/local/atlanta/2026…

Let's get it right! Atlanta's decades-long 'war on density' needs to end. Despite recent gains, the city still has one of the lowest population densities of any major U.S. city, which impairs our ability to achieve many things that cities do best. – at Atlanta, GA

These concerns form Bronin echo warnings we've seen for months from local developer Eric Kronberg about the draft zoning rewrite being too weak in terms of its allowance for new, urban-appropriate housing types and densities. – at Atlanta, GA

"Zoning expert Sara Bronin says the December draft...doesn't do enough to expand housing options and advance the city's economic mobility goals...the draft proposal would freeze Atlanta's current single-family zoning in place, creating "single-family neighborhood fortresses" – at Atlanta, GA

The Atlanta Comprehensive Transportation Plan will guide transportation investments and improvements across the city over the next 15 years. Let the city know that you want a future where wallking/biking/transit are more highly valued as transportation! wspengages.com/ATLCTPSurvey

This seems like a great affordable-housing development for Downtown! "The vast majority—193 apartments total—will be reserved at either 50 or 60 percent AMI, officials have said. No resident will be required to pay more than 30 percent of their income" atlanta.urbanize.city/post/i…

The financial hurdles of office conversion are proving to be enormous. Clearly, a boost in financial incentives, tax relief, and direct funding programs is needed to help these 'pencil out', as they say. /end
