Gorgeous listeners! We miss you. Work and children and other creative projects have been (rightly) taking up our time and energy. But if there’s interest, we could maybe come back and do a few more episodes, or a special edition something. What do you say?
Whew. Been busy with work stuff but finally finished up the first draft of my anti-demon "Shofar" #jewishmonsterhunting trading card. Not sure if I got the Hebrew right...need to check that.
Excellent thread, as always, from our friend @AdneSadeh (you know you’ll never get weird looks from us 👀😈😎).
Last week I started a 🧵for @ProjectTzimtzum on how Jewish magic intertwines with Jewish liturgy & ritual. I'm going to pick up with the angels in the Shalom Aleichem prayer, how Havdalah spices scare demons, & how Tashlik helps us avoids the evil eye. (Art by Nathan Gutman)

Sure we've all got a hanukiah, but my life won't be complete until I acquire a Judith holding the severed bloody head of Halofernes hanukiah.

Isaiah 34:14 is wild, with Lilith, seirim (goat-demons), & tsiyyim (אִיִּ֔ים, 'wildcats' or 'desert-dwellers.') Like Lilith & seirim, tsiyyim can be read as demonic. I've having a hard time finding good Jewish sources on demonic tsiyyim. Anyone know any?

So, if you like us, you probably like @TheRaDR. You may even know about us because of her. This, sheyd-throwers, is a super cool opportunity to bring some more Danya torah to the world which, I’m sure we can all agree, is a thing we very much need.

This is amazing. Another great @shvlman find. I've never seen anything like this.
An amulet for an evil spirit, hung over a baby's cradle. Photographed in Samarkand, Uzbekistan in 1928.
This appears to be chicken feet (like some Jewish demons have) and garlic hung over a parchment amulet

THE RED DOOR is currently available for pre-order, but a handful of people get to read it before it comes out. (Haha, see what I did there?) Would you like to be one of them? Get in touch with me here or on the Project Tzimtzum website. projecttzimtzum.com/

Thank you, Facebook memories, for reminding us that 10 years ago we were @StereoSinai… and we were into sheydim even then. 😈
