I've taken some time this morning to reflect on things.
I asked myself who bet that a paperboy from a podunk town of 12,000 would take a one way ticket to California with $50 left to his name, go to school at the most beautiful campus in the world, wake up his last semester to 9/11, have his friends from high school go to war while he graduated into the worst recession in recent times, where he later went to work for a small company that would change the world, meet the love of his life playing a mobile phone game, run for governor and be semi retired in his 40s owning a home in a beautiful location?
It wasn't as much a bet on that paperboy as it was a bet on the American Dream.
Every single person who has fought for or believed in this great country enabled my journey. It was not a bet on what would happen. It was a bet on anything being possible.
I am so proud to be an American. From the bottom of my heart, thank you to all my fellow Americans and to those who came before us who still believe in this dream.
Never give up. Happy Independence Day!🇺🇸
Hi Sam. I live here in San Jose. VTA does not need the money. They admitted this publicly. Voters already passed Measure RR in 2020 to provide a dedicated sales tax and Caltrain promised to be fiscally secure. We were promised that would solve their funding problem. Whoops. 1/5

Hi Thunder. Around my home in Santa Clara County, the measure will generate $285 million a year for transit service, and the income profile of transit-dependent residents is far lower than the general population. Nobody on the Right seems to gripe, though, about the inequity that American taxpayers subsidize Big Oil to the tune of $3.8 billion annually in special tax credits, deductions, accelerated depreciation, and other subsidies. congress.gov/crs_external_pr…
"People are really upset about Flock so I am proud to announce we are adding more cameras."
In all seriousness in San Jose, these stupid empty bike lines in the suburbs clogging traffic have people running more red lights.
Way more freaking dangerous.
Speeding can save a minute. Slowing down can save a life.
This week marks an important step toward safer streets as we announce the installation of 33 speed safety cameras across San José. (1/2)

Caltrain tries to scare voters.
Such a garbage article. They act like fares are their only funding.
We passed a dedicated sales tax for Caltrain in 2020 at their lowest ridership.
They promised to be fiscally secure.
They lied.
Vote NO on measure RTM
Replying to @Caltrain
@Caltrain representatives who spoke to the Palo Alto City Council on Monday highlighted their recent efforts to raise revenues and lauded the @cityofpaloalto as a regional model for public transit partnerships in the run-up to a critical vote.

Not buying $30k of lotto scratchers can save you over $25k per year.
Srsly slop by American Public Transportation Association. They assume on average a car costs you $2,000/month (WTF) if you never leave SF.
Oh and your time is valued at $0 - slave labor.
Vote NO on RTM
San Francisco households could save thousands of dollars a year by ditching their cars for public transpo, according to a new report: kron4.com/news/traffic/going…
80% of the transit deficit falls on San Francisco riders. Before that double-digit raise Lurie signed off for Muni.
Obv, there will be some SFers that will side with PG&E and want to pick the pockets of the rest of the Bay Area to subsidize their are transit.
Vote NO on RTM
Replying to @ThunderParley
and yet, the city most affected by public transit funding is in favor.

If we throw a $17 billion regressive new sales tax hike being pushed by PG&E, billionaires and corrupt transit contractors...
We are progressive.
The yes people think you are stupid.
We are not your ATM.
Vote no on measure RTM.
I've finally finished my voter guide! Here's how to vote for more homes, public safety, and progressive policies while rejecting populist slop. Highlights:
House CA11: Scott Wiener
SF D8: Gary McCoy
No on G: Save Sunset Dunes
Yes on D: Bring SF in line with state norms to reduce slop ballot measures.
Yes on A, E, F: Streamline SF procurement and department/commission structures/oversight.
Yes on H, RTM: Give our inefficient transit agencies and state government even more money because otherwise they'll cut services.
Yes on 3 / No on Prop 40 / Yes on 42: Income tax the rich! But we should not be confiscating assets at the state level. Billionaires are good, actually, and we should encourage entrepreneurship. If we want to address wealth inequality, do it with an annual, national wealth tax, not a one-time state one.
Yes on 45: I'm conflicted, but CEQA is bad, and this reduces it.
My full writeup is below.
Comparing RTM to a BART strike just pigpiles the dishonesty behind measure RTM, a $17 billion blank check being pushed by PG&E and transit contractors.

You obviously weren't living in the Bay Area the last time BART had a strike. Public transportation is what keeps the Bay working.
SF: "we're so rich that we want the whole damn Bay Area from Brentwood down to Gilroy to bail out Muni and the fat raises our billionaire mayor just gave them"
We are not your ATM
Vote NO on measure RTM
Which is why we will Vote NO on RTM
Not throwing away more tax dollars In the form of a $17 billion blank check with zero accountability because of a scare campaign powered by PG&E and corrupt transit contractors.
We are sick of the scamming and defending affordability.

Dozens of homelessness programs costing billions of dollars were found to be wholly ineffective. The decades-long high speed rail project is a record-breaking boondoggle. The Covid/pandemic relief funds show over $10 billion worth of fraud.
This is our tax dollars. Thrown away.
BART recently increased parking fees at 7 Station parking lots because they were over 90% capacity.
Why do so many urbanists just lie and sling insults?
Vote NO on measure RTM
There was a time when @sfstandard was not a total shill for BART's reckless fiscal mismanagement.

Bay Area Transit is expected to receive over $6 B next year without a new tax.
"running out of money"
Even the largest transit agency in the largest county in the bay says it has no idea what it would use the money for because it doesn't need it.
$17 billion blank check? ❌
Bay Area transit is running out of money. Would you pay more in sales tax to keep the trains and buses running?
Prop. RTM would raise sales taxes in five Bay Area counties for 14 years, generating nearly $1 billion annually for BART, Muni, Caltrain and other transit agencies. Supporters say it's necessary to avoid major service cuts. Opponents say transit agencies need to rein in spending before asking taxpayers for more.

We people of the Bay Area declare,
Measure RTM extortion ain't fair.
We work hard for all our money, won't be bled dry.
We are putting our foot down and passing it by.
I won't ever lick the boot of PG&E,
defend affordability and stand with me!
With the recent chatter around ineligible voters and an upcoming election, I'm offering up my viral thread on California's last big election that might make you say WTF happened in 2020 and 2024.👇
