🧵 This is an important new tool which fills a methodology gap to investigate the robustness of clinical lab studies. These studies are increasingly used to rationale further clinical research and treatment (especially in COVID-19), sometimes without formal appraisal.

🧵 The paper demonstrates how this tool was developed and how it has been applied in a SR There is scope for further development so application by systematic reviewers, clinicians, lab scientists, etc, will be valuable. Feedback gratefully received via email!

Re-sharing this important Cochrane review on #WorldMalariaDay
Replying to @LSTMnews
The @Cochrane_IDG, based at @LSTMnews, has a longstanding relationship with the @WHO Global Malaria Programme, and its reviews have informed treatment and vector control guidelines. Read a recent CIDG Review update that informed guidelines: lstm.ac/3xSvemo

🦟 New #Cochrane review on #Wolbachia for preventing dengue 🦟 This is an exciting dengue prevention strategy but more trials are needed to demonstrate whether these results can be replicated in other settings, as well as data on cost and acceptability

Sharing our new review on infection prevention and control measures for mpox tinyurl.com/yvbpzfuy A lack of studies investigating IPC measures for mpox meant an analysis of known cases of transmission was used to inform the Qs Thanks to Bec, @GuyattGH, @vlutje1, @SGould_LPL

Last year an investigation by @itvnews & @bmj_latest questioned the evidence for claims that "microclots" caused long covid symptoms and the use of apheresis and anticoagulants to treat them itv.com/news/2022-07-12/long…. A newly published @cochranecollab review on this is damning 1/

"Microclots" cause #longcovid? Cochrane review appraises laboratory studies. Concludes the particles are not clots, occur in people that are healthy or have other conditions. No justification for plasmapheresis on this count. @Cochrane_IDG #MECFS cochranelibrary.com/cdsr/doi…

Please give this important review a read! We found that the majority of evidence being used to justify plasmapheresis for the removal of "microclots" is at high risk of bias. The term "microclots" itself is inaccurate, and these particles are found in healthy controls too.
