Been pretty cool building out more depth in Waddle Wars and seeing how the retention / progression features have impacted our feedback & stats.
Example 1 - we nerfed defenders, but added meta progression where you earn stones to level up the defenders. This initially resulted in our 1 day retention drop from 30%. However after adding in a tutorial that quickly walks players through the progression systems, 1 day retention quickly returned
Example 2 - one motivator to transform Waddle Wars from a hyper casual arcade game to a "hybrid casual" game was to be able to monetize in a way that felt fair to players and not have to run ads. After adding in depth to the game + some quality of life purchases (like 2x game speed), we saw our ARPDAU (rev per active player) finally enter industry benchmarks
Still a long way to go, but we're seeing progress
