Ty Shine is one of South Carolina's most dangerous newcomers heading into the 2026-27 season. The 6'2 combo guard is entering his senior year after announcing his transfer to Fox Creek High School in early August. Shine is a dynamic guard with a college-ready frame and a skillset that translates to every level of college basketball, impacting nearly every aspect of the game. After an outstanding junior season at Harlem High School in Harlem, Georgia, Shine averaged 20.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 2.0 steals per game while shooting 50 percent from the field and 37 percent from three. He helped lead Harlem all the way to the GHSA 3A State Championship game while surpassing 2,100 career points, further showcasing his ability to consistently put the ball in the basket. Shine followed that up with another impressive summer, this time competing with 444 Athletics on the Puma Circuit. Throughout the summer, he showcased his complete offensive skillset, creating for himself at all three levels, playing through contact, and consistently finishing around the basket. One of Shine's biggest strengths is his shooting. He possesses an effortless jumper with great elevation and rhythm, while also displaying a strong feel for the game away from the ball. His ability to relocate, find open space, and contribute without needing the ball in his hands adds another dimension to his offensive game. With the ball, Shine plays with patience and control. He doesn't allow defenders to speed him up and does a great job reading the floor, manipulating defenders, and getting to his spots. His ability to operate at his own pace allows him to consistently create quality looks for himself and his teammates. Defensively, Shine brings physicality and agility to the point guard position. He has strong footwork and a longer wingspan that allows him to bother opposing ball handlers, fight through actions, and disrupt the flow of an offense. Shine will fit seamlessly into Fox Creek's system and immediately gives the Predators an experienced lead guard capable of impacting the game on both ends of the floor. With his scoring ability, playmaking, shooting, and defensive versatility, Shine should be an immediate X-factor as Fox Creek looks to make another run toward the State Championship game in March @tyshineee @FoxCreekHoops @TimKButler @antauwn @PrepHoopsSC @AndrewBaxleySC @444Athletics @colbylewis20 @POBScout

I think being a high school basketball coach might be harder now than it’s ever been. You really have parents wanting to sit inside practices. That’s crazy to me. I don’t want to sound old, but back in my day, parents wouldn’t even think to ask. Practice was for the players and coaches. Period. Much respect to today’s coaches because they’re dealing with unwarranted egos, unrealistic expectations, delusional parents, handlers. The high school coach used to be more than just the person drawing up plays. They were mentors and role models. They taught you discipline, accountability, how to handle adversity and how to become a better young man or woman. Now, if a freshman isn’t playing 20 out of 32 minutes, you have parents ready to transfer them somewhere else. At some point, we have to ask: Are we helping these kids by removing every uncomfortable situation, or are we hurting their development? How do we give high school coaches the ability to actually COACH again while still holding them accountable?
