Thank you @Wera_Hobhouse for raising the unfair treatment of choirs in not being allowed to return to rehearsals by @OliverDowden @DCMS. A total lack of parity - compared with other indoor activities and no published science justifying their decision to delay. #ChoirsMatter
🎼 Amateur choirs give so much to our society. Sadly, they have been treated unfairly in the Government's guidance compared to professional groups. On behalf of the many wonderful choirs in Bath, I called for urgent clarification of this inconsistency. 👇
Brilliant to see coverage of @DCMS guidance, & its impact on amateur choirs, will be discussed on both @BBCRadio3 (w/@Voicedoctor_uk) & @BBCRadio4 (w/@bobchilcott) tonight. #ChoirsMatter #singingmatters

It’s more than the loss of work (and I’ve lost fees @DCMS @OliverDowden). I hadn’t anticipated the emotional cost of being treated so disproportionately. It’s exhausting justifying your work every day. It’s tempting the best to leave this profession. #ChoirsMatter #singingmatters

I have written to @OliverDowden (@DCMS & @DCMSArts) to ask about the rationale for the restrictions placed on non-professional singing - the guidance states that only 6 singers can meet in an indoor space. We should see the evidence that has led to these tight strictures.

"There’s been no evidence to show that singing indoors is more dangerous now than it was a few weeks ago." We agree with @Voicedoctor_uk speaking on @BBCRadio4 this morning - @DCMS need to show us the science.

Just asking @OliverDowden and @dcms for parity across leisure activities...so that choirs are able to rehearse indoors (complete with all of our safety measures & risk assessments) #choirsmatter #singingmatters

This is superbly written. I wonder if @OliverDowden and his mates at @DCMS have read this? The entire choral world is on the same page. @amybebbs1 @davidlmusic @Kadamsonsuzuki @suzidigby @SusanHollingwo1 @abcdtweets @MakingMusic_UK @ISM_music @SingUpTweets @musicmarkuk
Bravo @RichmoMusic in today's Times for telling it like it is.

There is no mention of choirs in SAGE minutes since Oct 2020, & at that time they were grouped with gyms & indoor exercise classes as comparable in terms of infection risk, and assumes no face coverings used @DCMS @OliverDowden #ChoirsMatter Para 29 gov.uk/government/publicatio…
Agree but could you look again at the rules about singing please. They don't really make sense given the other communal activities that are now allowed. Always good to show that you are prepared to think again.
Delighted that Six Nations Rugby will be staying on the BBC and ITV for all to enjoy 📺 🏉

Hope you get an explanation. I asked @DCMS @OliverDowden and they didn’t actually answer the question “why?”...just quoted the rule at me 🙄 😡
This quoted post is unavailable.
A totally illogical/unfair restriction by @dcms @OliverDowden on professional choir leaders / conductors and millions of non-professional singers/musicians. How about a new sport...”Choir Rugby” or “Footy Choir” just so my choir can sing again 🎤 ⚽️ 🎤 🏉
"We are disappointed to hear from @DCMS that other organised participative group activity, including amateur group sports, are permitted...whereas no choir, band or orchestra can meet outdoors except in socially permitted groups of 6 or 2 households." 👇makingmusic.org.uk/news/road…

"Research conducted among members shows - at best - 2/3 of participants have engaged online, leading to the exclusion of at least an estimated 250,000 people across the nation who would usually engage actively in music." 🗣️🎵 @OliverDowden @DCMS makingmusic.org.uk/news/road…
